Liam's POV
I stare out the window at the trees we pass through bored out of mind. Why? Well I am running an errand for my dear old best friend. Today I'm really not in a good mood I just want to go home and watch a movie with a bottle of beer.
The car instantly stops as I growl at my best friend's men. "Why did you stop?" I growl at the driver. He signals to the front I give him a annoyed look and then look forward to see a car right in the middle of the street.
I groan and get out of the car followed by the rest of the gang. I could hear muffled scream making me alert. I slowly moved towards the car where bullets layed on the ground around.
The scene in front of me broke my heart. A little girl who looked 5 was panicking at her father who layed in his pool of blood gently placed his bloody hand on her cheek. "I-i-I l-l-love *cough* y-y-you t-too princess. Y-y-you m-m-mean e-e-everyt-t-thing to m-m-me. I'll a-a-always be there looking o-o-ver you. Pl-l-lease t-t-try t-to *cough* be h-happy. L-live y-y-your li-ife t-to the full-lest i-i- w-will al-l-ways be wi-i-th you my b-baby" The father said before his hand went limp. The little girl let out a scream filled with so much pain it brought tears to my eyes that I blinked back.
"Dad noo dad please tell me this is a prank. Please dad. Dad you can't leave me" The little girl kept on repeating holding onto her father for dear life as her heart breaking sobs rung through the silence. One of the gang member pried her off her father as she sobbed louder thrashing her legs and arms around. She kept on sobbing calling out to her father as I crouched down to her and held both of her wrist stopping her from thrashing it around. She sobbed and called out for her father as we just stared at heart breaking scene. She finally seemed to give up and went limp in the man's arm as tears silently flowed down her face.
She blinked a few times probably trying to get rid of the blurry vision. "Hey hey look at me" I told the girl as softly as I can trying not to scare her. She finally looked at me as I gave her what I hope was a reassuring smile. I gently wiped away the tears but that was pointless as more fell making me let out a sigh. I looked into her eyes but instantly regretting it. They were filled so much pain I had to look away.
"It's alright. Everything will be okay." I say. I know it sounds stupid and basic and pointless but I don't know how to comfort someone alright? That's the first thing that came to my mind.
My best friend is probably gonna freak out on me but how am I supposed leave this poor girl here. I'll deal with Mr. ruthless mafia man later. He can't be that heartless can he? He wouldn't let a child suffer on the street right? Right? Well right now I'm trying to convince myself.
You know what fuck it. Klint will need to suck it up. I'm not gonna leave this little girl in the street in so much pain. We can find her family later and return her safely home.
"Tell Klint we're returning. Don't mention her I'd like to tell him personally" I tell to no one in general as one man who I recognize as Blake his assistant nods and goes to call Klint.
I look at the girl in front of me who looks exhausted. I gently pick her up as she wraps her legs and arms around me and lays her head on my shoulder making me smile. Seems like she wants to fight but is too tired to so she gives up as another sob leaves her mouth. I look at her sadly as she cries herself to sleep in my arm.
We all get into the car as i put her on the seat beside me and buckle the seat belts around her.
(After the car ride)
We reach to my best friend's mansion. What if he kills the girl? I really need to ask her name. I can't take her to my house due to my alcoholic brother. That is no place for a child. And I don't know any other people who are nice. Well Klint is worse than them but I have faith in my best friend. I hope my faith in him pays through.
I get out of the car and gently pick up the girl who I don't know how still is asleep. She must be exhausted. I make sure she's comfortable and get inside the house where my best friend is standing arms crossed angry why we didn't finish all the errands.
Confusion flashes through his eye for a minute as he sees the little girl in my arms before it's back to stone cold. I hand the girl to Blake who carefully takes her to one of the guest rooms upstairs.
The men all scurry out of the room when Klint dismisses them and he turns to me visibly frustrated as he let's his emotionless expression fall seeing we're alone. Oh boy. I'm dead today.
"What was that?" Klint questions as he sits on the stool by the counter massaging his forehead in frustration.
"That was a little girl" I tell him seemingly unbothered but on the inside I was gonna burst with nerves. He snaps his head towards me glaring which I choose to ignore. I need alcohol. I take out a wine bottle from the wine cellar and take out two glasses from the cabinets pouring myself and Klint a glass.
I offer him a glass which he gratefully accepts still glaring at me. He takes a sip then sighs. "What are you doing with it?" He questions tired of my antics. "Firstly she's a human not 'it' and secondly I found her on the middle of the road crying on her father's body" I say to him as I take out a stool placing it in front of him and taking a seat.
"Firstly I don't care and secondly you can't just pick her up and bring her with you." He replies to me well scolding me in the second half which I just shrug to making Klint more frustrated.
"And what do you mean crying on her father's body?" He questions me so I explain to him everything that happened in detail. I saw him soften for like a mille second but he would never admit it. Not even on his deathbed.
"Okay so what is it doing here?" He questions. I glare at him for referring to her as 'it' but reply nonetheless. "She needs a place to stay until we find her family and you know she can't stay with me" I tell him taking another sip of my wine.
"Okay but why me?" He questions/whines. You see he doesn't show any emotions to anyone but me. After 10 years of hard work of earning his trust since we were 3 on the streets he finally let's his walls down around me which I'm quite proud of myself for.
I give him the 'Seriously' look as he huffs and slumps his shoulder in defeat. "Fine" He breathes out. "But if it-" He starts but we were interrupted by the pitter patter of some extremely light footsteps.
We turn to see the little girl come down the stairs one at a time holding onto the railings of the grand glass staircase as she rubs her eyes with the back of her fist. Nobody can deny that she looks fucking adorable right now. Not even Klint the supposed heartless man.
