Disrupted holidays

The summer was supposed to be quite laid-back, finally. Getting your bachelor's degree has brought the completely stress-free holidays for the first time in years that you needed so badly. It was an amazing feeling to have nothing awaiting you, not having to worry about any outstanding essays to write or subjects you still needed to pass.

Everything has already been settled for your getaway- you had moved all your belongings from the student house to your newly rented apartment a week prior, the rent and bills have been paid for. Just for that you had worked your butt off at multiple side jobs, specifically so that you were able to afford a month-long holiday while already having a place for yourself. The vacation spot was perfect, too, a small cabin close to the woods and fields, away from the city, responsibilities, people, just away from everything.

You were just finishing packing for the trip when your gaze stopped at the bow and quilt with arrows in the corner of your room for the fifteenth time in the last hour. Why not take it? In such a big forest it must be safe to use it, and you honestly missed archery. There would be no better time to take it and use it than now. Smiling to yourself, you took the weapon and placed it on the bed, close to all the other things prepared to be taken.

"Alright, that should be everything..." looking over the whole room, you repeated everything you've packed again to make sure you missed nothing and started packing your small car.
Finally, the time has come. The fresh summer air was already putting you in good mood, and the car ride early in the morning on the empty highway was making it all even better. Putting on your favourite playlist, you sang away majority of the journey to your holiday home.

The place turned out to be a lot cosier than you'd expected, the small cabin's windows were letting a lot of sunlight in, and the smell of wood was such a nice change to an apartment scent in the city. It felt more freeing.

You brought all of the luggage to the bedroom, which turned out to be a bit smaller than it seemed on the pictures but it didn't matter. The living room, though, was filled with book cases and old wooden furniture. A dining table with four chairs was placed on the right side of the room, close to the open kitchen, on the other side there was a couch and a coffee table in front of it. The bedroom door was at the end of the room on the left and a quite big bathroom with a bathtub had an entrance both from the living room and the bedroom, which could be quite comfortable. That was about it, there was only one floor. You looked out the bedroom window and all you could see was the great field with many flowers that was reaching into the forest, the only road nearby was the one you have arrived with. This place was far away from civilisation, just like you wanted.
"Perfect!" A wide smile graced your features as you allowed your body to drop on the bed and lie down for a while, enjoying the silence, sun and the comfortability of being alone.

It's been a few days already since you arrived at the cottage, filled with exploring the forest, reading books and just enjoying yourself. You finally had the time to try out all the recipes you wanted as well as draw and paint for hours. This was exactly the type of holidays needed.

It was still early in the morning, but you knew very well how insanely hot it would get later throughout the day. There was no time to be lost if you wanted to use your time here to the fullest after doing nothing for the first few days. You breathed in, the fresh morning air filling your lungs and the sweet scent of the forest making you smile.

Oh, how you missed that.

After a quick breakfast that you enjoyed outside, you changed into your favourite sundress as it was supposed to be incredibly hot that day. You then proceeded to quickly pack all you wanted in a canvas bag, placing the bow across your chest on your left and the quiver on your right shoulder. You quickly grabbed the three-finger glove and a bracer and put them in the bag too. Everything seemed to be alright so you left the cabin and began walking happily to the place that you had found earlier on. The birds were singing, you could hear the forest moving with the wind. The smell of conifer needles and the forest bed was overwhelming senses, it's been far too long since you could enjoy it like this.
