A/n: i thought to begin with a very angst-y chapter, you're welcome.

⚠ Triggers: Mention of death.

Bakudeku moment, eh.

___

"Hum." His voice was croaky, woven into a short gasp of a whisper as his eyelids fluttered to stay open. Bakugo was surprised he even heard or managed to understand what the young hero wanted.

His own state of mind was in chaos, thoughts ricocheting against every brain cell, causing so much havoc that he felt he could melt away when the breeze slightly picked up pace. No matter how tightly he clutched his childhood friend in his arms, bringing him closer to his body to calm his own mind down, it did not work. Tears slipped with little to no effort of staying back, his eyes were wide as if he had seen something traumatic - in a way, he had. His lips wavered with each breath, trying to slip out a word, anything to awake him from his trance but nothing came out.

"Hum for me, Kacchan."

The slight buzz he felt on his cheek was what finally had his eyes snapping towards the smiling greenette, his head limping back but not too far back since it was supported by Bakugo's arm to keep it upright. He felt it again. The soft buzz that in any other situation would have Bakugo cursing or perhaps exploding at the younger teen for even touching his cheek but right now he found himself eagerly clasping his hand over Izuku's when it had began slipping away from his face.

He didn't mean to grip his hand so tightly, causing Izuku to let out a low chuckle before being forced to inhale sharply, the aching sensation in his chest only seemed to intensify with each laboured breath, but even a gun shot wound couldn't wipe away his signature smile.

"I-I'm going to call someone, just don't move okay? Keep breathing, follow the rhythm of my heartbeat." Bakugo tried his utmost best at placing his friend on the ground. Leaning his whole body down, he let go of the boy, pushing away the thought of how limp his body was - almost like the teen had no control over it anymore.

He glanced towards Izuku's hand that was placed on top of the fabric that Bakugo manged to wrap around the wound to stop the bleeding, he had ordered Izuku, rather furiously, to apply pressure and to not stop. Fuck, no, he was zoning out again.

Gripping Izuku's spare hand, he placed it over his heartbeat, trying to calm it down so that Izuku would be able to follow it, but the trembling of his fingers that were dialling for the emergency services seemed to prove so otherwise.

"Kacchan?"

"Shut up, shut up, Deku!" His voice strained itself into a tangled mess of a ball, scratching his chords as it tried to steady itself when leaving his lips but he couldn't keep the bitter taste of pain at bay. It was like his mind was mocking him for even thinking it was going to be okay, but he had to think that, right?

His nerd wasn't going to leave, he wouldn't let him.

Izuku blinked slowly, clearing the slight fog encompassing his vision as he appreciated the beauty of the clouds; some huddled around a larger cloud, some with darker shades of hue which were painted by the setting sun. He had to focus on the passing clouds because even though the physical pain was beginning to dull down to his senses, his emotional pain overrode that.

He moved his hand away from under the gingerly placed hand of Bakugo's that was trying to keep the blood on his chest restricted, deciding to put his sticky, iron-scented shaky hand over Kacchan's instead. After all, if he was breathing his very last seconds, he'd rather have some physical contact and who better than that of his childhood friend's?

"Hum, please." He knew he was asking too much, why would Bakugo even listen to him? He never did what the teen asked for. He didn't care about his feelings, maybe he did but he didn't have much evidence to back up that thought.

"I-If I do, if I hum for you - will you promise to stay awake for me? Please?" A choked sob wavered within him as his hovering body looked down at the fragile boy who quirked up his lips softly, exposing a smile that seemed to send Bakugo's heart into hysterics. It was such a simple move but it felt like Deku had finally surrendered to his fate, and Bakugo didn't like that, he didn't like that one bit.

Though if this was truly the end, then maybe life was giving him one last chance to redeem himself.

Lowering his head timidly, one hand still pressed against the wound as the other tenderly palmed Izuku's cheek, bringing his face closer to him once he sunk his head into the crook of the greenettes' neck. Twisting his face an inch closer, his lips brushed the shell of his friend's ear.

And he hummed. He didn't know how long he was humming for, eerily enough his voice was calm as the deep rumble of his chest that echoed with the effect of his humming vibrated into the younger kid's body. He kept humming, even when he heard rushed footsteps before sirens were heard. He kept humming even when the sensation of a faint heartbeat underneath his finger-tips ceased.

"Midoriya?!"

Aizawa-sensei's voice was more of a blurred background voice to Bakugo, his frightfully wide eyes were not able to shed any more tears as his humming slowed down, surrendering to silence.

He didn't dare move, his head still buried in the crook of Izuku's lifeless body. All it took to set him off was when his teacher decided to pull the blonde into an embrace, he let him but his body didn't reciprocate the action, instead his eyes laid onto the last of sparks finally flying away from Izuku's eyes that were frozen in place as they stared up at the sky. Finishing off the look of what a real lifeless body looks.

He didn't realise he was screaming, punching Deku's chest, begging - demanding for him to wake up, to respond until Aizawa had to use force, with the help of his capture gear he engulfed the hysterical blonde and once again pushed him into his chest, this time Bakugo couldn't help but to clutch onto his teacher.

His cries could be heard around each corner of the conceited block area.

In the end, his hatred for himself only seemed to grow over the years, especially after his mind taunted him with the mocking reminder that Izuku's last words were of calling out his name, 'Kacchan.' He didn't understand why, even in his last moments, he uttered his name. He wasn't deserving of that.

He wasn't ever deserving of Izuku and somehow the universe agreed to that because now he was gone from him.
