Two silhouettes seemed to blend into the pine grove as the night sky swathed them in the darkness. Fireflies twinkled sporadically throughout, and if not for the three still corpses surrounding the two, the scene might have been mistaken for a peaceful and serene one.
The girl and the boy faced one another - one covered in blood, and the other covered in tears.
Perhaps in another lifetime and another timeline, they might still have just been two children, holding hands to play and laugh together as they slowly grew into adults. But this was Wonderland, where time and fate and rationality ran backwards and forwards, all at the same instant.
"If you could rewind time, would you do everything differently? Because our story might not have been such a tragedy." The boy smiled ruefully, as if he could see another world in the horizon. His bloody hands briefly touched the immaculate hat on his head. Hatter, ever so diligent when it came to maintaining his hats.
The girl remained silent as her body swayed unevenly. When she finally answered, she had stopped crying. "No. No, Hatter, I don't know. But I can still try." The moonlight, reflected in her eyes for a moment, shined brightly as she wrapped her hands around herself and screamed. The young Hatter had long disappeared, a single bolt of ribbon left in his place. Just another whisper in the wind.
Author disclaimer: I've never really written any fantasy stories lmao, so all in all, don't read this if it's not your cup of tea - feedback would be great tho :)
