Life was never easy before. I can barley remember what my parents looked like. That last thing I remember of my parents before the accident was my dad telling my mom once again that I had stolen her eyes from her. That always used to make me giggle as a child because mom would playfully hit dad on the shoulder.
We all laughed loosing our selves to our foolish thoughts. I was only 4 then and an only child. We were on the road going on 'a little vacation' as my dad put it. Dad was driving while mom sat in the passenger seat watching the road. She seemed to be scanning the road really carefully and I didn't understand why. Dad seemed off edge that whole morning to. When he was loading the car earlier, he was in a rush and seemed worried. But now dad seemed a little more calmer and mom looked a little more relaxed.
During our car drive mom and dad talked on and on about how I would love where we were going. When I asked when we would come back home, mom seemed to have turned pale and sadden a bit. Dad stayed quite a bit keeping a dead stare at the road. I didn't know why they both reacted that way but I regretted after as the car grew quiet.
I had grown bored and started to drift off to sleep. As I slumped in my booster my sleep grew deeper and deeper. Then the worst happened. The car dad had been controlling was launched forward. Dad tried to gain control of the car again but couldn't and the car we were all in flipped over. I was screaming and I felt my head bang against the door.
When the car stopped rolling I realized we were upside down. I was so glad I had a seat belt on to hold me in place. Everything hurt and I was starting to feel tired. The air started to get warmer and smell like moms cooking when she burnt a plastic fork one time on the stove. I looked forward to see my dad who sat motionless and upside down in the drivers seat.
"Daddy?" I said as I was wondering why he was sleeping at a time like this. I turned to look at my mom who seemed to be awake but was struggling to open her side of the door. "Mommy?" I said and she turned around to look at me. I saw she had blood running down the side of her head and her eyes seemed watery. The air was starting to get warmer and warmer. And it started to hurt to breath.
" Put your nose in ur shirt Scarlet, it'll help you," mom said. I did as she said then pointed at her for her to do the same. "I'm fine little princess. Your all I need to worry about right now. We're gonna get out of here ok? Then we can all go get fixed up and go on our vacation."
I looked at her then at dad. Her gaze followed mine and she inhaled deeply. She brought her shaking hand to dads neck and rested two fingers on it. She stayed like that for a moment. When she took her fingers off his neck her hand seemed to have been shaking more then before. She turned back to me and I saw tears swelling in her eyes. She sniffles and closed her eyes tightly against the head rest.
"Mommy? Why are you crying? Is it because daddy feel asleep on the job again?" I asked trying to see if that would maybe cheer her up. She picked her head up from the head rest and looked at me. Then the barrier of tears had broken and tears rolled down her cheeks. She sniffled a bit and I could see her struggling to turn back around completely.
I could only see the back of her head now and see her shoulders shake as her hands covered her face. I let go of my shirt that covered my nose and put my hand to my seat belt buckle. It seemed to have been jammed. I continued multiple times to try and unbuckle it but it just wouldn't budge. Mom must have heard me because she turned around and looked at me with wet and puffy eyes.
"Scarlet, no stop your going to hurt your self mamas. Just sit still for mommy. Mommy's gonna get us out of here."
Without realizing I pushed the buckle again and it unclipped. I then fell forward on what was now the top of the car. I screamed in pain as I landed on little pieces of glass and pain shot through my body. I coughed as the air was again starting to hurt my lungs. My vision grew dark as I tried to look around.
All I could hear was mom saying "Scarlet don't move honey ok? Your going to be ok. Stay awake with mommy, don't leave mommy alone ok, princess?" I tried responding to her but was no use my throat burned like when I would swallow hot soup after dad told me to blow on it.
The world grew darker and my ears were ringing. Then there was a bright flash of light. I heard something being open on my side and heard a man and woman's voice. I didn't recognize the voices but I also couldn't see their faces. All I saw was a bright light like the sun.
Warm hands carefully pulled me out the car but I still remained motionless. I heard a woman's voice and she had the sweetest voice. I was guessing I was in her arms. A male voice ordered the women to take me away. Where were we gonna go? Did they know to wake up daddy and help mommy? The male voice continued to speak but then there was a loud boom. I shook at the loud noise and buried my face in the woman's shirt. Her shirt smelled like coconut.
The woman tightened her grip on me. Pain continued to spread through my body and before I was consumed by darkness I saw a flash of glowing eyes. I couldn't react because I had already given in to the sleep that consumed me completely.
