What Did I Get Myself Into?

Chapter 1

I rolled over to grab my phone to turn my alarm off. After not sleeping well last night, going to work was the last thing on my mind. I lay on my back and give myself a mental pep talk. I look over to see my dog, Rex, sleeping peacefully so I try to quiet my movements as I get out of bed. I take a couple of steps to my bathroom and cut on the shower. After I'm done, I'm feeling slightly better about going to work. I get dressed and attempt to eat breakfast before I walk Rex. After my short walk with Rex, I head out to work.

I thank the stars that I did not have to sit in traffic today. I walk into the office and immediately walk to the coffee machine. As I'm walking towards my desk, my boss, Charles, calls me into his office.

"Good Morning, Jade. Why don't you have a seat?"

"Good Morning, Charles. How was your evening?

"Pretty good. I called you in here to talk about an upcoming project."

I mentally rolled my eyes at the idea of a new project. "Ok, who is the client and what is the scope?"

"Well, those answers are classified until you sign this NDA," he says as he hands me the NDA.

I briefly scan the document because this isn't the first time that I've signed a NDA before working for a client. I signed it shortly after I finished the project.

"Why don't you just send me over the files and I can review them? I'll let you know if you have any questions."

"Alrighty Jade. I think this could be a good opportunity for you to showcase your skills."

"Thanks for the chat Charles."

I get up and walk to my office ready to tackle the day. I crack open my laptop and it pings, notifying me that Charles sent over the documents and drawings that I need to review. I flip the request for proposal and realize that this project is massive. I've never been in charge of a project this massive before. We have to demolish and build a basketball arena for the Washington Wizards. I look for who the architect is and I recognize them so I release a sigh of relief. I'm somewhat familiar with sports and feel comfortable with how big this project is.

After my initial review, I formed a team of people that will be helping me. I sent out emails and set meetings to discuss the project. I spend the rest of the day combing through the documents to get a better idea of what's going on. Around 6 PM, I realize that it's time for me to go home.

As I'm leaving, my boss stops me again to tell me that I will be meeting with the client Monday afternoon. I wish him a good weekend and hope in my car to speed home.
