SKIP TO AFTER CHUNIN EXAMSKARIN stopped in front of the village gates. Just as she had expected, everything was burning. The hospital, the houses, the stores. What had she used all that chakra for back then?
"You musssst be Karin." The unmistakable voice of Orochimaru. Already he had found her. The girl turned around warily, unsurprised to see the snake Senin smugly standing with his hand on his hip.
"I am. Are you the one who burned down the village?"
"That is correct. Are you not sad, or angry? Your home is in flames."
"What home? I don't see anything. The people you burned weren't innocent. I feel nothing for them. What are you doing here?"
Orochimaru grinned in interest. "I'm here for you, Karin."
Disgusting.
"What do you mean?"
"Your ability...your perfect chakra control, your absolute certainty for sensing other presences from far far away...you would make the perfect assistant!" The man exclaimed.
Karin scratched her head. Now that she thought about it, assistant didn't sound that bad. At least not as bad as working under him as one of his minions.
So she agreed.
It really wasn't that bad after, of course Orochimaru was suspicious and confused at her easy cooperation, but when he saw how efficient she was in her work, he shrugged and walked away.
--
"OW!" Kabuto yelled as he crashed into the stone wall.
Karin grinned and straightened, running a hand through her red hair. "Karma, asshole. That needle hurt like a bitch." She pulled out the thin needly roughly stabbed into her arm, and dropped it without a single flinch of pain.
"Shut up." The silver haired boy grumbled, picking himself out of the rubble. "You win this round. By the way, I heard Orochimaru-sama is bringing a new pupil here today."
"Personally?" Karin raised an eyebrow. "Do you think he'll be the...new vessel?" Of course, she already knew who the boy would be. Uchiha Sasuke. Time had gone by in a blur, with tons of letters from Naruto, and nights filled with her writing replies.
"Most certainly." Kabuto nodded.
Suddenly, the huge stone doors slammed open. "Ah, speak of the devil."
The two turned towards the newcomers, standing side by side.
"Karin, Kabuto, this is Sasuke-kun." Orochimaru smiled as he pushed the Uchiha towards them.
Sasuke's eyes lit up in recognition, which the snake senin noticed. "Oh yes, you two were in the Chunin Exams together, weren't you?"
Karin nodded. "He was weak." She sneered, putting her hands in her pockets. "Couldn't even sense me."
Kabuto almost snickered, but covered it with a cough. The red haired girl patted his back roughly.
Orochimaru cackled, but Sasuke glared furiously in humiliation. He decided that he hated Karin, right then and there. He would kill her after killing the snake.
But the Uzumaki female only smirked further at the moody boy. What a child, Karin thought. How could she have ever fallen for such a piece of shit?
"Orochimaru-sama, I'll be leaving tomorrow to take care of the second hideout. Are you sure everything will be fine here?" Karin asked, realizing that there would only be Kabuto as caretaker.
"I have faith in Kabuto. You can go knowing everything is fine." Orochimaru answered fondly, chuckling. "You worry too much. It will only be a couple of years."
Oh yes. A couple of years in which you'll get murdered by Sasuke, Karin thought sarcastically.
"Very well. I'll be taking my leave now."
