Kaida's POV
"Kaida!.... Hey wait up."
Ignoring the voice and rushing steps behind me as I quickly run out of the classroom and down the corridor towards the exit of the school. There was no point staying, they'd been finding ways to exclude me from this place all because I didn't fit into their little program and now they finally had a reason.
"Please. Just stop."
Feeling a hand grab the left side of my shoulder causing me to spin around.
"Go away. Leave me alone."
Not liking how my voice trembles as I stare up at the new kid whom was just sat next to me in class only a few moments ago.
His whole frame towering above me only being 5 foot 2 , his dark brown eyes studying before looking down at my hands which still feel as if they were on fire.
" you have no idea how long I have been looking for you Kaida.."
Wait. What ? He's been looking for me? My flight senses kicking in I try taking a step back but fail when his grip on me tightens but not enough to cause me any pain.
"Please listen to me. You have to trust me. Your not safe here it's only a matter of time till your discovered I can smell the magical aura surrounding you. "
Magical what now.
"Just leave me alone!"
Not meaning to raise my voice as loud as I did. I push him away, his hard body distancing from me as I run towards the exit. Pushing the double doors, the fresh air hitting me. The sun bright as I continue running as fast as I could, my muscles burning and heart pounding hard. What was going on with me?
I keep running, pushing my body until I reach the very place I know I can be alone and not be bothered. Tony's waffle shack. A little restaurant diner just situated along the outskirts of town where I worked at on the weekends.
Pushing the door open, the bell ringing.
"Kaida?"
I hear tony say from behind the counter. Dressed in his casual clothes, a light red coloured sweat shirt and a pair of old jeans. His wavy black grey hair combed backwards, being Italian. His skin tanned, as he looks down to his golden watch around his wrist .
"I didn't expect you to work today, it being your birthday. Shouldn't you still be at school?"
The restaurant only just opening up, chairs still stacked upside down on the tables the window shutters still partly closed.
"Finished early,"
Not really wanting to talk about school or anything in general. Tony was good to me, always paying me more than the national wage and making sure I had something to eat in between shifts but the only downside with Tony was his son. Liam, again another guy whom thought they were entitled to anything they wanted in life. Including me,
"Alright, but still it's your birthday."
Damn, forgetting that part.
"It's fine honestly I'd rather work anyway,"
Mustering a smile which I could tell he knew was fake, being one of the few people to actually look through me and see me.
"Please,"
Not really wanting to explain what had happened, Tony knew about my school troubles being the only one who supported me and getting me to carry on with my education instead of just working for him full time which had tried so many times to do. Saying I'm better than this place , that education was important. But what if I wasn't better than this place? What if I failed even after trying so hard. Taking a deep breath in, feeling a hand press against my upper back and then squeeze my shoulder.
"The counters need cleaning and the stock cupboard needs reorganising and labelling, your shift finishes three, no later. Got it ?" His tone changing as he gently pushes me towards the back rooms.
"Thanks Tony."
Wanting to hug him. I wasn't much of a hugger, being honest I didn't like people touching me that much. Not because I was a prod or thought I was better than anyone. I was scared, the thought of me hugging someone I cared about and then hurting them wasn't a chance I was prepared to take. Making my way through the back into the staff toilet I quickly get changed into my work uniform, having always having it packed and with me incase I just needed an escape. A place I could go to where I'd be safe, a home.Sweat coats my skin as I reach above my head pulling one of the many plastic boxes that need reorganising, mostly filled with old past unfiled paperwork. I could hear the mutter of voices the restaurant now heaving with people as it approaches the lunchtime rush. Tony behind the counter as orders fly into the kitchen where I could hear jerry singing calmly as he gets swarmed with orders, there wasn't anything that he could do. Being in his 60s his body not moving as quickly as it did once before,
"Kaida."
Tony knocks on the door his breathing heavier than usual,
"Your parents are here."
His voice low, not wanting anyone else to hear.
Fuck. The school probably having called them. Guess I wasn't getting any dinner tonight, they liked to remind me that they both ruled the roof and if I was to get into anymore trouble consequences will be made. I hated it when people called them my parents, they were far from it.
"Just make sure to stay in here, and keep the door closed-"
Hearing shouting going on near the counters,
"We know she's there Tony. Now send her out,"'
Tony's eyes momentarily closing as he turns quickly away, closing the door behind him.
Would they beat me this time? Or leave me in the dark cellar for a week? Remembering the last time I had disobeyed them.
"I know she's back there Tony. Stop trying to cover for her,"
Hearing Mary my foster mothers voice,
"Your not allowed back there. Only members of staff and me, so if you want me to call the police I would leave. Both of you-"
Tony's voice staggering slightly as the ground begins to shake, my body wobbling as the floor crumbles and splits. An Earthquake? Here in London?
"Get down!"
Screams pierce my ear drums as the light flickers off and on as the whole room starts to break off, the room collapsing around me. The ceiling breaking as I try to move to the side and push the door open but failing as it hits against something heavy. Still hearing the screams of men, women and children as the air turns incredible cold. My skin covered in goosebumps as it becomes a lot harder to breathe.
