"Now we're on to today's daily news, according to scientists the new planet they've been preparing for 118 years is now ready for human life. As everyone knows planet Earth will soon no longer be safe for us to live on, if you or a family member would like to partake in a challenge to get you on the new planet you must be 16 to 25 and have no health problems , there will be more information when you are confirmed, bless you all. Moving on to-"

The television was shut off
"Nina, honey did you hear that"

"Yeah mom I heard it loud and clear I'm literally right next to you "

"Oh Nina why must you talk to your mother this way"

"I have no clue bu-"
My baby brother Milo starts crying he's about 8 months, and is a pain in the ass ,sometimes I wish I was the only child but nothing I could do now. Earth has been pretty sucky I mean there's been shortages on food and water, those necessities are way too expensive now, it gets harder and harder to breathe everyday . My grandmother and baby brother need oxygen tanks to help them live since they are weaker. Most of the animals have died off which is depressing, you just see people drop dead like it's some type of movie where everyone just dies out and your alone.

" Nina!" My mom yells from her room
"What's wrong?" I walk into her room and rest on the doorway.

"I had a chat with your father, him and I have decided that we'd send you off for that challenge the government set up"

"Wait- are you fucking serious mom! You made a decision for me, didn't even think about talking to me about it" I was infuriated how could she not have asked me.

"Sweetie your the only one fit in this family, I'm a stay at home mom and your dad is the only one making the income, we pay so much to be able to live especially for you grandma and Milo so please be considerate" my mom says with tears coming out her eyes.

" these are the times where I wish Mikey was still here, he would've begged you to go"

"I know sweetie"

Mikey was my older brother he's 2 years older than I am, he passed away few months back. Since everyone started going insane for food and water they would rob, he only tried to protect me and died in my arms there was no help from hospitals because there were no more supplies for big emergencies like gun wounds and really deep blade cuts or any life threatening diseases. I thought about how much I had always wanted to be like him growing up it was just him and I, he was my father figure since my dad always worked. He was so empathetic and loving, it may be strange but he even helped my mother give birth at home since again hospitals didn't do stuff like that especially if it was for more human life people stopped going once they found out they killed babies and I'm not talking abortion, I'm talking about you getting your baby taken away as soon as it comes into the world just for them to kill in the most inhumane ways you could think.

My brother always wanted a little brother when we grew up so I did things he would do to make him feel like he did.

"Fine, I'll do it, for Mikey" I say as I hold the locket necklace I had with a picture of him and I with our initials on it

I had the address to the building I had to go to, memorized it and I was on my way.

Few hours later

It's now night time and I got home a minutes ago, I signed up and now I have to wait for them to text me. I only found out some information such as it's an international thing and at least 170 people have signed up for it. Some people are unfortunate and don't have TVs to look at the news.

The next day

I woke up at 7 am barley slept I was too anxious I wanted to know if I was accepted or not. I head downstairs and to my surprise my dad was home.

" hey dad why are you home aren't you supposed to be working?" I gave him a big hug.

"Wow you want me gone already kiddo"  he says laughing

"Nah i was just asking"

"Well I wanted to spend some time with my one and only daughter and I heard you get the message today"

"Yeah I do- speaking of message" I hear a beep coming from my poor slow broken phone.

  "This is a message to Ms Nina Chambers... we would like to announce that you have been accepted by our team and you'll be leaving home in a few days, thank you for signing up we hope to see you soon"

"What does it say Nina?"

I look up at my mom and dad
"I've been accepted"

They congratulate me and hug me. It then hits me... I'll be leaving home to God knows where, I was never told that much information, so many people are gonna be there, it's a little strange to me but I'll only know when I'm there.

"Hang in there guys I love you all so much" I say looking at my family , I just hope I'm able to win that challenge in time to save my brother and grandma.

No matter what it takes I'll do my best
