Notes before reading: I'm a minor, so the whole cigarette thing isn't accurate : D
Smoke danced in the air, flowing in ripples from her purple stained lips. She let out a few heavy coughs, cursing the dense smoke dwelling in her lungs. A chuckle came from behind her, leg bouncing to the hum of the radio. A grin stretched across the boy's face, whom she was sharing a cigarette with.
Mikasa struggled to suppress her coughs, and quickly passed the cigarette back, ignoring the boy's grin as it grew even wider.
"...So what do you think? Was it too strong for you?"
Mikasa thumped against the back seat, legs tangled with those of Eren's. She lay thinking, shuffling out of her boots while searching for a reasonable excuse.
"It wasn't bad, I can tell why you like them so much," she muttered, glaring at his feet grinding against her own. She responded with a gentle kick of her own.
A laugh broke the silence she oh so wished he wouldn't interrupt. A grin ruptured his face.
"Your coughs say otherwise. They might be a little too harsh for you," he laughed, trashing on her useless attempts at escaping the embarrassing situation.
"Ow! The hell!?"
His laughs soon came to an end once she elbowed his side.
...
I held my breath, watching his lips take in another huff of the smoke, scratching at his ribs which were aching due to my elbow.
Minutes went by and Eren continued his session. I glanced at him every other few seconds, studying his inhales and exhales, observed the way he held his stomach during his inhales, and how he let go during exhales. Observed the way he slowly drew his eyes towards me and gave another grin...
"What? Are you jealous?"
I honestly expected this question. I expected it once I saw that proud smile grace his face. The cause for that smile was obvious as well.
He won.
For once in Eren's life, he had won against me. I've never paid much mind to his challenges, but I always seemed to 'win' them with ease, much to his dismay. I was used to Eren's challenges, so when he asked me to try the damned cigarette, I accepted it, not expecting the outcome.
I couldn't do it.
The smoke weighed tons. It spread and spread with no sympathy. My lungs were being filled with the driest of sand, and there was no escape. I coughed and coughed, desperate to let the smoke out. For once in my life, I couldn't bear the weight.
As my coughs slowly came to an end, all I could see was that proud grin.
That damned evil smile of his. He enjoyed this.
"No, you're wrong."
I wasn't jealous. I was confused and frustrated! What did I do wrong? Things usually came off easy to me. What was different about this situation-
A chuckle.
His chuckle also didn't catch me off guard at all. His never ending grin hinted to it.
