A/N: this was written on impulse but is somehow longer than my others wtf 😐
~All Iwaizumi wanted was to get through a blind date. He didn't expect to get a café working boyfriend in the process.~
"Are you kidding me? This is the 3rd date this week and it's Tuesday." Iwaizumi deadpanned. "Oh don't be so mean! At least we set you up with a guy this time," Makki retorted with a snort. "Mattsun kept setting you up with a bunch of girls." Iwaizumi rolled his eyes and shuttered, thinking of last week. "Yeah, I don't think I've ever seen someone pull down their shirt so many times in 30 minutes." Mattsun cringed, pinching the bridge of his nose. "I'm sorry, I forgot you were gay!" Makki let out another snort, a laugh following quickly behind. Iwaizumi chimed in, "How the actual hell do you forget that one is gay?!" Mattsun shrugs, leaning back on Iwaizumi's couch. "I dunno, man- just happens." By this point Makki was on the floor, tears coming out of his eyes from laughing so hard. He chimed in, "It's kinda hard to see he's not gay from the way he looks at that one barista. You know, wears the alien hair clips, and knows Iwa's usual by this point?" Mattsun replied, "Yeah you have a point there."
Iwa rolled his eyes and looked at the two. "Well thanks to you, I have another blind date to get ready for. So get the fuck out." The two laughed, then get up and head out. The door closed behind them, Iwa's palm met his forehead directly after. 'Why did I agree to this again?' He thought to himself. He sighed, and went to go start a shower.
-Time skip bc i'm not writing about someone showering 😐-
Iwaizumi looked himself up and down in the mirror, deciding to ignore the pile of clothes on his bed. 'This is the outfit,' He thought. He had on a white hoodie with a black shirt on top, light blue jeans and black Converse. He didn't know why he was paying so much attention to how he dressed, he already knew he wasn't gonna care too much for whoever the blind date was anyways. He walked out of his room, grabbed his keys, phone, and wallet, then walked out of his apartment, locking the door behind him. He put in his earbuds that were already hooked up to his phone and started walking. 'Wonderful. Just another guy I have to lead on- I'm gonna be known as the 'Tinder Disaster' before long.' He shook his head, before focusing on the music the rest of the way there. Before he knew it, he saw the familiar decal on the window of the name of the café and the logo. He took out his earbuds and shoved them in his pockets, then took a deep breath, and pushed open the door to the café.
Iwaizumi looked around for Oikawa, since he always served during his blind dates. He spotted the bright green alien clips against milk chocolate brown hair and made his way over to the table. He cleared his throat, signaling to him that he was there. Oikawa turned and gave him a small smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. "Hey, Iwa-chan! Another blind date I'm assuming?" Iwaizumi gave him another small smile, giving a reply. "Yeah, let's hope this works out better than the other dates." Oikawa nods, and motions for him to take a seat. "I already got this gentleman's order. I'm gonna assume you want your usual or are you changing it up?" Iwaizumi turns, just noticing the other person- you know, the one he's supposed to be on a date with. He turns back, making eye contact with the barista. "My usual, please?" He nods, giving him a wink and a "Coming right up, Iwa-chan!"
Iwa mumbles a thank you and turns to the person in front of him. Makki said his name was Akio. He got a good look at him. Typical blue-eyed blondie with a letterman jacket. 'Wonderful.' He thought. He opened his mouth, already about to tell him that it wasn't gonna work, when he got cut off. "Look, man. You're cool and all, but one look at you and that twink told me that this isn't gonna work out. You obviously don't wanna be here anyways. So uh.. I'm gonna head out. I heard another waiter say that he was working on his break just for you so.. shoot your shot. And good luck!" He paid for his coffee at the counter, gave Iwa a smile and a thumbs up, and walked out of the café. Almost as if on cue, Oikawa walked over to him, a confused look on his face. "That fast? Geez, what'd you do, growl at him?" The two laughed, Oikawa taking a seat in front of Iwa. "No, actually. He told me that it wasn't gonna work. Something about I'm really intimidating or something."
Oikawa laughed, knowing that wasn't true. "Did he now? Well- he has a point. But you're just a big old teddy bear once he gets to know you." Iwaizumi laughed, nodding his head. "Yeah, you have a point. You never got my coffee by the way." Oikawa made a dramatic gasping noise and apologized. "OH MY GOD I'M SO SORRY!! Let me go grab that!" Iwaizumi laughed, sending him a thumbs up. He watched Oikawa yell at another waiter to get a Vanilla Frappuccino, a silver-haired male by the looks of it. He eventually zoned out, until Oikawa put his hand in front of his face and snapped. "Iwa? You with me?" He shook himself out of his daze, finding Oikawa with a large Vanilla Frap. "Yeah, sorry. Zoned out again." He gave a small smile to Kawa, getting another small smile in return.
Iwa stayed at the café for hours that time, switching between talking to Oikawa and watching him work. He noticed small things, like how he blushed slightly when someone complimented his hair clips or how he would give a smile that never quite reached his eyes when he talked to others vs. when he talked to Iwa his smile would light up the whole room. Iwaizumi eventually decided that since Oikawa got off at 5, he would ask him out on a proper date after his shift.
-Time skip because idk what to put here-
It finally turned 5pm, and Oikawa turned to Iwaizumi. "Let me change and put my uniform up then we can talk, okay?" Iwa nodded, and waited for Oikawa at his table. About 10 minutes later, Oikawa came back, wearing a light green crop top, light blue puddle jeans with a butterfly chain clipped to his belt loops, and a pair of white Converse, along with a different pair of hair clips. They were neon pink. Iwa smiled, adoring the Indie style Oikawa chose. He sent a big smile toward Iwaizumi, walking up to him. "So you said you wanted to ask me something?" Iwaizumi's eyes widened and he developed a blush on his cheeks. "Y-yeah. I wanted to ask if maybe... I could take you out? On a date that is. I just- none of my blind dates work out because I either make up some excuse or they notice that I have a thing for you and-" He was cut off by a small peck on his lips. He looked at Oikawa, who also had a blush on his face but also had a smile. "Of course I'll let you treat me to a date. Where are we gonna go?"
Iwaizumi had the perfect place in mind. "Just wait, it's pretty close to here. I hope you're hungry though. And do you like onigiri?" Oikawa nodded, still not understanding where this is going. He grabbed Oikawa's hand, almost dragging him out of the café. Kawa laughed, walking along with him. "I do indeed like onigiri. Is there a place near here?" Iwa nodded his head yes, slowing down and letting Kawa catch up to him. They walked in comfortable silence, Iwaizumi going from crushing Oikawa's fingers to linking them together. After about 5 minutes, they walk up to Onigiri Miya. After seeing the name, Oikawa smacked himself in the forehead. "How did I forget that this was here?? Atsumu told me that this opened up like 5 minutes from work." Iwaizumi shrugged, undoing their hands and pulling open the door for Oikawa. "Wow, such a gentleman." Oikawa muttered as he went inside. Iwaizumi followed close behind, grabbing Kawa's hand after he caught up to him. He saw Suna working the front counter, and asked for 4 pieces of onigiri. While waiting, they got a table and made small talk. He learned more about Oikawa. Like his obsession with aliens, why his favorite color is green, and that he is indeed, a total twink.
Their onigiri came pretty quick, saying the shop was close to empty. They kept up small talk all the way until they had to part ways. One of the topics of conversation was how close they live to each other, which happened to be just 4 floors apart. They kissed each other goodnight before Oikawa left the elevator, leaving Iwa with a smile on his face. Damn, he thought, no more blind dates for me.
-Present Day-
"...and that's how our first date went." Oikawa finished with a smile, tucking his 5 year old daughter, Asami, into bed. Iwaizumi poked his head in, both looking for Oikawa and to tell his daughter goodnight. Kawa gave him a small smile and said his goodnight and I love you's to Asami, and went to go out the door. Right before the door closed, though, she looked at them and said, "I hope I find a person that will treat me as good as you two treat each other." They both nodded, hiding the tears in their eyes, and closed the door. "Best decision ever," they said in unison, linking their hands together, now adorned with a single ring, and went to get ready for bed.
