It had been two years since Cath saw Evelyn. She claimed to be Jest's sister, and strangely, Cath believed her. They both had the same witty humor, the lemon yellow eyes, and most of all, love. Cath saw the same amount of love she saw in Jest for her in Evelyn. She was young, about seventeen years old. Cath was five years older than her now.

Evelyn had the ability to make most people laugh and smile, but not Cath. She found Evelyn wandering in Hearts and asked her who she was. Evelyn was looking for her brother Jest, and Cath told her he was dead. Evelyn cried in front of her and Cath wanted to. But she couldn't. She didn't feel sad. She didn't feel sorry. She felt nothing.

Evelyn was also annoying to Cath. She was like Chesire, but Cath couldn't kill her. She couldn't. She was Jest's sister. She told Cath about their childhood.

According to Evelyn, their father wasn't the best father ever. He was abusive. He occasionally hit them and their mother was completely helpless. In the end, they ran from him to Chess. Evelyn was the type of person who adored and looked up to her sibling. She always believed Jest could keep her safe. Jest was eight years older than her and cared for her. That didn't change the fact that he was a rook. It was a high position that Jest earned by showing his loyalty, and he left for Hearts. There he met Cath and met Sir Peter and died.

Evelyn decided to stay in Hearts and she came to see Cath sometimes. They were as close as they could be if you could be friends with a heartless person.

Cath found Evelyn in a bakery. The same one where there used to be a cobbler shop. Where there used to be Cath's hope and dreams. But now there was another bakery instead. She quickly shook off those thoughts and found Evelyn. She explained everything to her and Evelyn cried tears of joy.

They went to Cath's bedroom and decided to leave for Chess. Until Evelyn asked. "Are you sure that being the White Queen is what you couldn't finish? Not opening a bakery or forgiving Mary Ann or pleasing your parents?" The truth is, Cath didn't know either. She didn't have a clue.

They headed for the treacle well.
