I remember those days, when then wind blew, and Mama would hold me tight. She would rock me back and forth as we watched the sunset on top of the hill. Her delacate voice would whisper in my ear "Your living your dream Oak." It wasn't my dream. It was her dream.
My older brother Toby would work up in the field with my father. My little sister Emmy would just stay at home, looking out the window or playing with the dogs in the field.
I remember those days, when we had finally finished the horse ranch. My mother was 2 months pregnant and was excited , hopeing for another boy. When we had everything done with no worries, my mother cooked our biggst dinner and served us like a slave. I helped. I felt so proud that day!
I remember those days, when Emmy and I had to do all Mama's jobs. She could barely walk when she was 7 months pregnant. We had a blast. Emmy was 5 and I was 8. I remember running to the well and run with a huge bucket, just to show mama I could do it. She would patt my head and kiss me. Papa would just give me a high five, not wanting to get me dirty from the field work he had done.
I remember those days when little Cooper was born. Mama was so happy. Toby was the man of the house at the time. Papa was in Montana doing work. Down in Kansas, there is not much work here.. When Papa got back, Mama got sick. It was my job to feed little Cooper. Then, Mama took a turn for the worse. Papa stoped the crops right away. Mama could not look up, Could not talk and could not move. All she could do was slightly move her head to the side and hold our hand. One summer night, Mama got up .Toby helped her. It was around sunset, and she tried to got outside. The dogs barked and horses rambled. Emmy and I ran outside watching Mama struggle . She looked up slightly at the sky and then looked around her. She spoke some whisper words. " My dream had just started. Now I leave my children with such great life. Thank you for my entire life . I have lived to see it grow." She layed in the tall tall grass. She stoped breathing. She was gone in heaven, watching over us. Papa then got her cremated. We scatered her ashes all through the ranch. "Your living your dream Oak."
No mama. It was your dream. Only your dream.
