Heart beats and kisses

A bolt of thunder woke me up; I could feel my heart beating loudly from the sudden sound.  Turning onto my side to the clock it read a little after five in the morning.

Groaning I rolled onto my back and stared up at the ceiling.  I tried listening to the rain to calm myself but it didn't work.  My mind started wandering to Damon.  Could he really be a vampire?  Also, if he was could I handle being with him?  Damon was the first guy that I met that actually listened to me and cared about my wellbeing.

Sighing to myself I realized there was no point of just lying down and giving myself a panic attack.  I walked over to my closest and grabbed my phone and got my clothes out.  After putting on a pair of my dark jeans and a gray sweater I quietly went down the stairs, hoping not to wake up Luke.  As I was walking down the stairs I smiled to myself as I heard him snoring softly.

Walking directly to the kitchen I poured myself a glass of orange juice and took a granola bar out.  As I was eating I check my phone to see three missed calls from Julie.  My heart sank a little when I saw nothing from Damon.  That might be a good thing though a voice in my head said.  After I finished eating my granola bar I noticed that the rain had stopped.  The next time that it rains it could possibly turn to snow since we were so close to winter.

Checking the time on my phone I noticed the sun would soon rise.  After debating with myself for what seemed like hours but only seconds I decided to go outside for a short walk.  Putting on my hot pink rain boots and a matching raincoat I headed outside.  It was a nice smell after it rains; it seemed to be just what I needed to calm down.  Taking a long deep breath of the fresh air felt wonderful on my lungs.

Looking around I noticed that I was the only one on this dreary morning taking a walk.  It was peaceful for me to have time to myself.   As I was walking I occasionally stopped and stomped on a rain puddle, just for the heck of it.

Hearing a bolt of thunder I flinched looking up at the sky.  Right as I looked up it started pouring down rain once more.  I quickly pulled up my hood to my raincoat and started to run.  The rain started pouring down harder making it a rain wall all around me.  Slipping on the sidewalk I landed on my butt with a groan.  Before I could blink I was being lifted up into someone’s arms.

"Lara, what the hell are you walking out in the rain for?" Looking up at the person who picked me up I was face to face with no other, than Damon Salvatore.  He appeared to be somewhat angry and didn’t appear to be happy to see me.

“Put me down.” I demanded to Damon, as he started walking with me in his arms back inside his house.  Like the ass he was he chose to ignore instead of putting me down.

Walking into the house with me in his arms he slammed the door with his foot behind us.  It made a loud thump as it was shut.  Damon carried me all the way into the living room right to where the fire place was, before placing me down gently.

“Stay here while I get you something warm to drink and dry clothes.” Damon told me before leaving me by the warmness of the fire.

I quickly pulled off my wet rain boots and rain jacket, shivering in the process.  As I warmed my hands by the fire Damon was back with some clothes in his hands.

“I don’t need dry clothes; I’m only slightly damp.” I told Damon refusing to look him in the eye.

“I won’t have you getting sick.  So either you go and put on the dry clothes or I will do it for you.” Damon replied.  Looking up I saw he had an ice cold glare at me. I could tell that Damon wasn’t bluffing about changing me.

Glaring back I grabbed the clothes and went into the bathroom to change without speaking a word.  As I put on the black long sleeve shirt and sweat pants I could smell his cologne that he used on them.  It smelt wonderful.  I tied the sweat pants as tightly as they could go on my petit figure.

Before going back out there I looked at my appearance.  My hair was slightly damp from only being partially covered and it was frizzy.    My face looked pale from no makeup and the cold.  Sighing to myself I tried to brush my hair through my fingers as I walked out of the bathroom.   Walking back into the living Damon was sitting on the couch with a mug with steam coming out of it.

“Happy?” I asked Damon.  My teeth chattered slightly from being cold as I sat down next to him.

“No.  What you did was very stupid, Lara.” Damon gave me a disapproving look as he handed me while handing me the mug.  I shivered slightly as I took a sip of the warm tea he made me.  I was still feeling cold even though I sitting near the fire place.

Damon sighed grabbed the blanket from behind him and wrapped it around me.

“Thank you.” I mumbled to him as I tried to stop my teeth from chattering.

Awkward silence seemed to flood between us as I sipped on the hot beverage.  I didn’t know what to say to Damon, I wasn’t ready to confront him but it appeared that I didn’t have much of a choice at the moment.

Damon grabbed my chin gently studying my eyes. “What the hell were you thinking taking a walk outside in the rain?!”

“It wasn’t raining when I first started walking.” I defended myself as I tried to squirm out of his touch.

“What if Vlad was there and you weren’t with someone?” Damon argued with me.

“I can take care of myself.” I snapped at Damon trying to pull away from him.

“If you can take care of yourself then you wouldn’t have been walking in the damn rain.” Damon snapped back at me.

It was a stare down, Damon and I were both glaring at each other like the stubborn people we are.  My heartbeat started pounding faster in my chest as I studied his features.  His jaw was tight in aggravation obviously but it made him appear sexy.  Damon let go of my chin and started to run a hand through his dark hair.

“I can hear your heartbeat pounding.  It’s beating fast.  Is that good or bad?” Damon asked me softly.

“I don’t know.” I told him while tucking a strand of my hair behind my ear.

Without any warning Damon pulled me onto his lap and started kissing me passionately.  My heart reacted before my brain could as I started kissing him back.  Damon pulled back quickly looking at me.

“You kissed me back.” Damon stated.

“Oh I did?” I answered sarcastically.  My brain told me to move to move off of his lap but I didn’t.  I just stayed there.

“Does this mean you’ve made up your mind?” Damon questioned me slowly.

My heart was still pounding in my chest but not out of fear but out of excitement.  I felt like a person that was high as I looked at him.

I nodded my head in response, unable what to say.

“And?” Damon raised an eyebrow waiting for a verbal response.

Bringing my mouth up to his I brushed my lips gently against his.

“I’ll give us a chance.” I told Damon.  Before he could respond I brushed my lips against his again.

As our lips moved in sync not even the thunder made me break away from our kiss.
