CHAPTER 13: Piece by Piece, Tear by Tear
I spent the night sitting on my cushioned window sill, the door open a little as it rained thunderously outside. The ice cold wind brushed through my curls as I dump my head back against the white wall behind me. My room was pitch black beside the crescent moonlight above me, Meira and Sammy, my German shepherds were both fast asleep on the bed as my phone lights up with a message, 'Is it weird that I think you might be awake?' An unknown number appears on my screen.
I furrow my eyebrows, staring at it, before I get another message, 'If you wake up tomorrow and see this as an unknown number...it's Jeremiah Loser Lawson...apparently.' He says, I smile to myself, pressing the call number on the phone and holding it up to my ear, leaning back in my chemise and waiting, he answers straight away, "Adie?" He's shocked, and surprised.
"It's weird how you knew I was awake." I murmur softly, still staring out into the rain.
I hear a bed freak on the other side, "I'm sorry, did I wake you?" He murmurs, apologetically.
"No...I just can't sleep." I say, taking a sigh of defeat.
"Well, you always were a terrible light sleeper. Every time I snuck into your room, you'd know...every surprise sleepover." He murmurs, sounding as though he's got a hint of a smile on his lips. I close my eyes, just hearing his voice as I force my heart to beat properly again, the palpitations were speeding against me, just at his voice.
"You thought you had quiet footsteps...should've known I'd recognised the weight you'd use when you thought you could sneak around, yet failed tremendously only because I was a light sleeper, not because you completely sucked at sneaking around when both my parents allowed you in anyway." I say to him, the one thing I noticed is that both my parents liked Jeremiah...more than any of top my other friends, even Amber.
He laughs gently, "You knew your parents allowed me in?" He breathes out, astonished almost.
"Grandma taught me more than you did." I tell him.
He sighs in defeat, agreeing by the sounds of it, "I still can't believe you used one of my punches on me. I had to ice my jewels by the way, so thanks for that." He says, mockingly.
I roll my eyes, "I think you deserved that one." I say, playing with the blanket.
"Where are you right now? In bed?" He asks me, all of a sudden.
"Window sill, beside the shelves. You want to play the star connectivity game?" I ask in amusement, knowing exactly where he was headed with this.
"Three of them aligned, just under the crescent moon where I am. I believe they should be beside the moon where you are." He whispers softly. I look up slowly, it wasn't hard to find as I smile gently, staring at it. Even in the rain, I could see it.
"I see it." I say, taking a deep breath.
I hear him breathe out, "I wish I was there. Your bed is definitely more comfortable than the one I've got now." He says to me, laughing gently.
I touch the glass window, a feather-like touch, "Can you feel the cold at the Academy?" I murmur.
"Probably worse than the cold at your place, only I'm almost certain you have the window open right now, because the rain is definitely audible. Barely any blankets and yet you know me, still too warm. Do me a favour and make sure you're wearing winter night clothes." He says through the other line.
I scoff, "Chemises only."
"Adie." He says to me, almost sternly.
"I have a blanket." I excuse.
