"Sorry, I'm late. I just read your email." Mrs. May looked like she wasn't having that excuse. "Never... mind."

"Please have a seat," she motioned to the row of desks.

I looked over to see that my seat was empty but the one in front of it was not. Kit sat in his spot like it was a normal class hour instead of pissed that he too had to stay after. I kept my head down as I passed him just in case he wanted to make eye contact today.

Mrs. May finally got up from her seat to address us. "The stunt you two pulled on Friday was disrespectful. Not only did you throw together a terrible presentation which you had an abundance of time to work on but you talked over your classmates who actually tried to get a grade." She then snatched a few papers off of her desk. "Both of your grades have been negatively affected so I'm going to give you one chance to help yourselves."

She placed some instructions on our desk and the first thing I read was that this is a partner assignment. "Wow. You think we work well together?" Kit chuckled. He received a side-eye in return.

"Change the way you two work and you ought to pass. You have thirty minutes to come up with an idea then once I receive it you can go home. I will be right back."

Kit turned to face me the second her foot disappeared out the door. "What are you thinking?" I barely glanced at the paper and he was asking for me to pitch an idea. I couldn't help but roll my eyes. "Oh, really? I thought we talked this out."

I almost exploded on him but I couldn't give myself the opportunity of missing out on some important answers. "We didn't talk anything out. You're hiding something from me. Harvey is your best friend and I know you know all the answers to my questions."

He cringed and got more comfortable in his chair. "I do have the answers but it's bro code that I don't throw my friend under the bus. Let's do this assignment instead of talking about this." He picked my paper up to look at it and I snatched it out of his hands just to crumple it up. "You're being serious right now? This is what you care about when a week ago you almost broke down at the thought of failing this class."

"I just want to know why Harvey has a sudden interest in me. He didn't even look my way before. Is it because Edith is dating his friend and clearly gotten over him? Is it because me and you are... what we are."

Kit smiled softly. "Are you struggling to say that we're friends?" I gulped as he finally came out and said what I have been questioning for a while. "We are friends. I've told you this many times before."

"Sometimes it just feels weird." I leaned away from him when I realized he was using my desk to rest his upper body. "I've never had a friend who acted differently around certain people intentionally." His smile slowly faded which made me nervous as to what was going on in his head.

"Yeah... I guess I have been a little too obvious." He sighed which blew bits of his faded blue hair off his forehead. "Honestly, Harvey has never been nervous when it came to girls. He could ask a girl out on the street and it would be nothing to him. But... it's just weird to be stuck in the same room with him where for the first time... he's struggling to get the girl."

I nodded along as bits and pieces started to connect in my head. "So that is where I come to place?" Kit agreed. "The only person I know is Edith so I won't be much help in getting this girl Harvey is talking about. But give me a name and I will help out just to get this scene in my life over with."

He chuckled while dropping his gaze to my desk. "I think you know one more girl." His voice was so soft that I could barely hear him. "Nova Homes is quite familiar to you."

"What?" I spat over my heart beating right out of my ears.

Just then, Mrs. May came strolling in causing Kit to face forward. "Come on. I need to approve a topic. I have a kid to pick up in ten minutes."

"Reproduction," he announced without even talking it over with his partner which is me. "We chose to do this makeup project over reproduction. I can promise you that it will be nothing like the last one. It'll actually be better because some of us know what we're talking about."

He looked back at me and laughed but I was still thinking about the information he just dropped one minute ago.

Mrs. May lifted an eyebrow before resting her hand on her hip. "You know about reproduction?" Kit nodded confidently. "So you have a child?" He didn't respond nor move his head to give an answer. "Exactly. Reproducing is more than your teenage raging hormones and because you didn't know that, I look forward to this informational presentation." With one clap of her hands, we both got up and left her class so she could lock up behind us.

"Sex?" I question once we were out of her earshot. "You're really going to talk about sex after telling me that your best friend, who probably is having sex right now, likes me?"

"It wasn't like that... at all. If Harvey wanted to have sex with you then he would have by now. Just think of it as you mean a little bit more to him." He patted my back as we continued to walk towards the exit.

My mind was jumbled with thoughts and I even saw Sophia's face in there a few times. "I- I can't face him," I admitted. "Not after this and not ever. I don't feel the same way." We both stopped walking when those words escaped my mouth. "The way he treated my best friend and the reputation he holds around the school. It's all just too much and it's not for me. I don't want to sit at your table or be known to your group and the fans that flock with it. I don't enjoy it and I don't fit in."

He just stared at me as if I said nothing at all and we were frozen in time. All it took was a deep huff from his nose for him to crack a smile on that handsome face of his. "This is awkward." I agreed by nodding my head. "You're saying that because you don't know him or us for that matter. Once you get to know the boys and the "fans that flock" then you will actually enjoy this. Your friend Eden-"

"Edith," I corrected.

"Uh, yeah. She told Noel that she was uncomfortable being around Sophia and he put the two girls in a room and they talked things out. Now she feels better and Sophia stays out of the way. Harvey is not going back to her. You don't have to feel like there are any outside forces."

"You're pushing this." My face went from nervous to serious and Kit did the same thing by peeling the smile off of his face. "I said no. I will not be put in a cage with Harvey so I can fall in love with him. There's a reason he's nervous to ask me out and that is because he knows I will say no."

"We're going to his house right now." Kit grabbed my wrist and pulled me to the doors against my will. "I will follow you home then you get in my car and we're off. You're not going to regret this."

"You are the best wingman a guy could ask for."
