CHAPTER 15: A Step Closer
Long story short, I slapped Jeremiah Lawson in the face.
He doesn't move.
I do-however-move, slamming my fist into his abdomen, "Oh for goodness sake, you're telling me, that instead of coming to my parents and myself, who can not only negotiate your way out of that by lying and proposing we have an arranged marriage, you pack up your things and fly to god knows where for two years, and come back telling me you were in freaking Germany!" I snap at him.
He furrows his eyebrows in concentration, "I did not think about that." He says, not at all affected by my slap or punch.
I'm this close to kicking him in the jewels...for real this time.
I grab my mountain of teddy bears and throw each one of them at him. He grunts and snaps his head my way in shock, "Stop! You're making noise." He whisper-yells at me, capturing my soft Jaguar before the harsh button nose connects with his eye. I scowl at him and throw my favourite bunny straight at his frozen face, before I'm tackled straight down to my plush round cushion bed in the corner of my room, under a circular arch, the fairy lights flick on as sensors while I flip him over and slam one of my fluffy pillows straight into his dump, porcelain and perfected face.
"You are such an idiot." I say to him.
He grabs the pillow, "Yes, I know that, now. Stop hitting me." He says quickly, looking up at me, intently, breathing heavy.
I drop the pillow on his face, "This entire damn time, you ran away because you didn't want to marry someone, when you could have tricked your parents altogether by telling one little white lie. They wouldn't be able to change anything if you'd already had the Lawson Law firm company for two years and a tiny lie of possibly having an emergence with the Parker's enterprises. I thought you had a brain up there, Jeremiah." I growl at him before I'm flipped over with a masculine huff above me as he straddles me and holds my wrists.
"I doubt you would have agreed to that. Besides, I thought it was that or nothing I chose to cut myself off from them. What would you do if you were in my position?" He asks me, holding my wrists on either side of my head as I look up at him, fairy lights and all. His green eyes sparked with adrenaline as I lean up, blowing a light brown curl out of my face.
"I wouldn't have left without talking to you first, you arsehole." I snap at him, using my legs as he'd once taught me and managing to fail as he slams on top of me.
I grunt, "You weigh so much more than you use to." I groan at the sudden weight of him and the pain that spread across my heart as he puffs out a breath and drops next to me, he moves his jaw.
"You held back on that slap." He breathes out.
I give him a dirty look, "Oh, shut up, you freaking imbecile." I sit up, ready to grab the pillow and slap him with it again but his arm shot out like a viper, fast and quick with no sound against our breathing, he slides my top half under his and connects our foreheads.
"I didn't want to put you in that position." He whispers down to me.
I huff, "You just said you didn't think about that. You wouldn't have even considered it. Now, let go of me." I punch his shoulder, weakly as he drops his head on the flat cushion underneath me, his chin against my shoulder, panting gently. I slide out from under him, moving further upwards towards the pillow and dropping against the middle one, hitting him with another soft toy. He capture it in his hand and throws it over his shoulder. I close my eyes, already feeling tired after today as he grabs the side blanket and drops his head on the same pillow.
