Young to Old

I am young
New to this world
Innocent and naïve
New born in the frost of winter
Basic and blue skinned
Primitive but pure
Loud and clear
Bells ring in the morning,
Announcing my arrival
I scream because I need to

I am a child
Trying to understand
Copying everything
Saving nothing
Meaningless but crucial
Help me and I got it
Full of life and full of it
Jokes and teasing
I learn that broken bones hurt
I scream because I'm frustrated

I am a teenager
I learn that words hurt
Miss-understood and sad
Fallen and broken
Priced by beauty
Sold by my peers
I am the most used object
Ranting in the dark
Hiding in the light
Smearing makeup on your image
Faking a smile
I scream because I feel

I am a adult
Working all day
Trying because they said so
Routine is my teacher
And taxes are my king
Drowning in responsibility
The only reason I act like a adult is because I am expected to
Vodka and coffee
Party's and work
Alone for the first time
I scream because I pretend

I am a parent
Nothing is only mine
Smiles and laughter
Tears and long nights
Colds and fevers
Disappointment and regret
Pride and gratitude
A child but old
Seen to much or too little
I scream because I love

I am old
Children run in the yard
Memories fade
Long nights and short days
Naps that take the whole day
Your children forget you
You are once again alone
Creaking bones and sore joints
I remember the good old days
Always cold
I scream because I forget
