Greetings,
I am deeply humbled by your interest and curiosity in '8 Moves and Mate'. The idea came to me after I had seen GM Carlsen's match with GM Paravyan in the Lichess Titled Arena April 2021. The 8-move game saw GM Carlsen blundering the 7th move with a overconfident pre-move and forgetting a common (common for him, I believe.) chess trap. His immediate primal reaction of tearing his shirt was turned into a meme. The game gave me many ideas and after much thinking was born '8 Moves and Mate'.
I set the protagonist on the lines of Jackson 'Jax' Briggs of Mortal Kombat fame and the chapter names are based on the moves played in the Carlsen-Paravyan match. Each chapter name has a move or a pair of them and the story is related to those moves. I invite you to take a look at the game yourself and work like a detective to find what happens in the story before the chapters are out.
