The Stone Cold Bender *ATLA Fanfic*

*Chapter 1*Where are we?*

I feel cold. Not the peaceful cold I had been in before, it is uneasy, sharp and feels as though it is coming from my body. I am laying on hard ground and soft snow. I hear wind rustling trees and a river flowing. And a familiar chirping. 

Opening my eyes and pushing myself up, I look around. I am sitting in a small clearing surrounded by trees with a river running through it. Feeling something land on my shoulder, I turn my head. Sitting on my shoulder is Chip. 

"Where are we? And what am I wearing?!" I question.

Instead of my clothes from earlier, I am wearing grass green haori with a black undershirt and a black hakama pants. Finally, I have black socks and zori on my feet. 

Standing up I walk over to the river and look at my reflection. I am meet with with my emerald green eyes, olive and freckled skin. My long black hair is down and reaches to my midback. 

Sighing I splash the cold water onto my face and dry it with my sleeve, before holding my hand for Chip to jump onto. As he does, I hold him in front of me. "At least you are here with me." I smile. Standing up I turn towards the snowy forest. Setting Chip on my shoulder, I take a deep breath and venture through the snow-covered trees. Looking for anyone that can tell me where I am.

Even though I am not wearing proper shoes or boots, my feet don't get any cooler then before. "I wonder if that kid is okay." I mumble as I track through the snow. I speed up when I hear people talking and see wooden roofs. 

Once I reach the seemingly small village, I approach a figure in a outfit of different shades of green and a gold head piece. They have neck length auburn hair and blue eyes. Their face is covered in white, red, and black face paint. 

"Excuse me," I say grabbing their attention. "I had woken up in the woods and don't know where I am. Would you mind telling me?" I rub the back off my neck embarrassed. 

Looking at me suspicious, they answer. "You are on Kyoshi Island, in the Earth Kingdom." 

I tilt my head and Chip chirps confused. "The Earth Kingdom?" 

They lose the suspicious look; it is instead replaced with a look of concern. "Yes, one of the Four nations." This only makes me more confused. 

Seeing as I had no idea what they were talking about, they lightly grab my arm. "How about we get you checked out." They say in a soft voice. I look to Chip before nodding.

They lead me to one of the wooden houses and sits me on a cushion. "Rest here I'll get you some tea, you must be cold." 

I sit in silence for a few minutes as Chip sits on my knee and I carefully pet his head. Soon they return with two teacups. "Hope you like jasmine." They say handing me a cup. 

I take a sip from the steaming tea as they sit on a cushion across from me. Even though the drink is steaming, I feel no warmth. I still feel cold to my core. 

"Now, let's introduce ourselves. I am Suki of the Kyoshi warriors." The now named Suki says. Nodding I introduce myself. "I'm Kim, and this little guy here is Chip!" Upon hearing his name, Chip jumps to his feet and flies over to Suki. He lands on her shoulder and rubs against her neck. "I think he likes you." I giggle. 

After I do a quick whistle Chip comes back to me and lands on my right shoulder. "So could you tell me about the Four nations?"

"-and I think that's everything. Any questions?" Suki asks after having told me everything.

'Yes, what the fuck is any of what you just said?'

I put my hands together in front of my mouth in a prayer position. The tea having been drained and the cups put aside. "Okay, so let me get this straight. There are four nations, each nation has some people in it that can control or 'bend' the element that their nation is named after. But there is one person that can control all four elements called the avatar. This avatar has been reborn into nation after nation for a very long time. But they have been missing for 100 years, which is how long a war has been going on between the fire nation and the other two after the fire dudes committed literal genocide the air guys?"

Suki was confused at the way I had chosen my wording but nodded anyway. So, I continue. "Okay. And this is Kyoshi Island named after a previous avatar. And you are the leader of the Kyoshi warriors." Once again, she response with a nod.

"That- That's so cool! Well minus the war and genocide part."  I exclaim, my eyes wide. "Could I stay here and become a member of the Kyoshi warriors?"

She seems to think for a minute before smirking. "Depends on how well you can handle yourself in a fight." 

"YES!" I shout, jumping to my feet. In doing so, I startled poor Chip making him upset. Because of this he decides to attack my head. "I'm sorry!" I cry as I crouch down and hold my head protectively with my arms.

Suki only laughs at my pain, like a monster. "My pain isn't funny." I complain. 

After Chip decided that I had enough, he lands on my right shoulder. Noticing the attack was over, I uncover my head and look to Suki. Rolling her eyes, she holds her hand out to help me up. "Come on, let's see what you're made of."

Grinning, I grab her hand and pull myself to my feet. "Let's go then!" I exclaim, smiling excitedly. 

"Alright, alright." Suki says, releasing my hand and leading me to where we will have our fight. A building that looks to be where they train. Once she walks in, all eyes are on us. Inside of the building is a bunch of girls in outfits like Sukis, the Kyoshi warriors. 

"Alright ladies, this is Kim. She wishes to be trained by us, so we are going to test her skills. Who volunteers to fight her?" 

They all look to each other before someone steps forward. "I will."
