As Daniel walks down the sidewalk he begins to think about the people around him. Each of them lead lives completely separate from his own with memories, families, jobs, and titles that he had no part in creating. And in one or multiple of these things they have found a reason to continue through this thing called life.
"Unlike me they have a reason to live" he says quietly under his breath.
The automatic door slides open as he makes his way inside. He grabs a ready made lunch and a coke to drink then pays. As he leaves he bumps into a girl but before he gets a chance to apologize she yells,
"Watch where you're going you stupid piece of... oh it's you" As soon as she notices who he is she walks away before giving him a chance to say a single word in apology.
"Whatever it was her fault anyways."
When he reaches the crosswalk he waits for the light to change before walking, then when it finally changes he begins. All at once out of nowhere a lone car speeds by but not without hitting him and sending him rolling over the windshield and into the air. As he is flying through the air he feels everything in slow motion and his life flashes before his eyes.
It starts with his childhood. A normal child he had friends that he played with often at school only to have them freeze him out as time went on. In middle school he got his heart crushed because in his own words he "aimed too high" and asked out the most popular girl in class. High school was spent doing nothing but learning he was clinically depressed and visiting an over worked psychiatrist who was on more pills than he should be allowed to prescribe. And now on his way back from his first day of college to his crappy one room apartment with neighbors that should just get divorced already he's sent flying by an asshole who thought it was a good idea to run a red light.
Then at last he falls to the ground in an awkward mess of appendages in directions that they should never go.
He lays there knowing that death would beat any ambulance that someone would attempt to call. Feeling the blood drain from his wounds the pain comes as at last the adrenaline wears off. Death could not arrive fast enough to take him.
"Get it over with already I never had a reason to continue anyways" he thinks as he stands there.
"Wait why am I standing, wasn't I..." before he could finish his sentence he's pulled back as a car comes through in the spot he was just standing.
"I thought I'd have a little fun and change your fate a little" says the "person" who would change his entire life as I once knew it.
