Chapter 22

One week later:

After a week of training and recovering, we were ready to head out to Washington. We were loading up the car with supplies and Skylar and Hazel were standing aside to say goodbye. I'm not going to lie, this place feels like home compared to Rosemire but we can't stay here and not make a cure. Sasha finally recovered while Crystal, she needs another day to recover then she will have her voice back. We finally finished packing and now we're saying goodbye to Skylar and Hazel. Rachel and Avery started crying when they hugged Hazel while Sasha, Allison, and Crystal started crying while hugging Skylar. Skylar and Hazel helped us with our training for the past week. Hazel beat Avery and Rachel's ass when it comes to hand to hand combat and trying to let their inner beta come out while Skylar helped Sasha, Allison, and Crystal with swords and scythes. Turns out Crystal is really good with scythes while Sasha was really good with dual swords like me. I'm guessing she wanted to learn dual swords to get revenge on Scarlett for stabbing her and almost killing her. Allison was getting better at throwing knives as well. After everyone was done saying goodbye, it was my turn. I walked up to Hazel and I hugged her and she hugged me back. I was shocked because she whispered in my ear and I smiled. I let her go and said "We will, I promise." Hazel smiled and wiped her eyes. I walked up to Skylar and I offered my hand to shake hers. Skylar looked at my hand, grabbed it and pulled me into a hug. "You better come back Seth, even though you have only been here for 2 weeks, you're like a little sister to me, I lost my brother before and now I definitely don't want to lose you. If you can't go back home, just know this is your home too." Skylar said, hugging me tighter. I hugged her back and I started crying a bit. Skylar helped me try to control my alpha side and so far I can kind of control it just not fully. 

We finally let go and Skylar was crying a lot. I smiled at her and nodded. "Don't worry, once we make a cure, all of this will be over and we can finally be free." I said, before getting into the car. Skylar smirked and started laughing while crying still. All of us got into the car and I got in the driver's side. I started the car and drove away from the city. We saw Skylar and Hazel waving and yelling "goodbye" or "come back soon", along with other sky wolves. We were driving for two hours and Avery, Sasha, and Rachel were playing a card game while Allison was asleep in the passenger side and Crystal was writing something in her journal. "And I win bitches! Haha 10 in a row baby!" Avery said, raising her hands in the air. "You're lucky Seth is driving or else you would get your ass whooped like back at school." Rachel said, laughing a bit. "What do you mean by that Rachel?" Sasha said, putting the cards away. "Oh shut up Rachel, that's in the past now." Avery said, crossing her arms. "Wait, now I'm curious. Tell us the story Rae." Crystal said, putting away her journal. "Well back at school, we would always train to kill beasts, rogues, and .... humans so in class we were the top three of the whole school. I was third while Avery was second and Seth, she was first because she was the strongest. She was even qualified to join the shadow wolves. Avery would always challenge Seth every time we spar or do outdoor training outside of the city. Avery would always lose, including me but that didn't stop us from getting stronger because our goal is to beat Seth and that's pretty much it." Rachel said, looking out of the window. 

Everyone was silent and didn't say anything else. I sighed and pulled over. Everyone was confused until I said, it's time to switch. Avery nodded and got out of the car, including me. I was about to get into the back seat until Avery stopped me. I was confused until Avery punched me. I fell on the ground and was holding onto my cheek. "Seth! Avery what the fuck are you doing!" Rachel said, getting out of the car. "I challenge you assassin to a sparring match." Avery said, cracking her knuckles. I shook my head and got up. "I'm not going to fight you Avery, if this is about what Rachel said, let it go. You're strong enough and you don't need to try to beat me to prove it." I said, walking up to her slowly. Avery got into a fighting position and I sighed. "Guys we don't have time for this, Seth's right Avery just let it go." Sasha said, looking at Avery. "I'm not letting it go until she fights me." Avery said, glaring at me. I got into a fighting position and Avery ran up to me about to punch me again but I dodge it and kicked her in the ribs. Avery fell on her knees and was holding onto her side. I was hoping Avery would give up but she got back up and tried to punch me again but I dodge it again and punched her in the face. We kept going like this for 10 minutes and Avery was really beaten up by me. Avery was breathing heavily and sweating a lot. I was breathing heavily and Avery punched me a couple of times but she looks like she is about to pass out. "Avery enough! Look at you! You're barely standing up anymore please stop! I don't want to hurt you anymore!" I said, giving her my worried look. "NO! N-not until I b-beat you!" Avery yelled, while spitting out some blood. "Why do you want to beat me so bad!" I said. "Because! You were always b-better than m-me! H-hell you talked to S-skylar with y-your actual voice but not us! F-fuck! you didn't even t-told Allison that h-her parents are dead! H-how can I fight by your s-side if I can't even be y-your beta Seth!" Avery said, limping to me. She tried to punch me but she was about to fall but I caught her. "I don't care if you can't use your beta side or not Avery! You're my best friend, you will always be my best friend, beta or not. It doesn't matter, I don't know why I can't talk to you guys with my voice but I will one day and give you the answer. I told you, you're strong enough at the point you can fight by my side."  I said, petting her head.
