Regret

The battlefield was solemnly quiet other than the cries of wounded soldiers in the distance. The ground was covered in a blanket blood it flowed down the hill like a thick, red, inky river. My shaking knees couldn't support me any longer. I slumped down onto the ground with a frustrated grunt. My eyes scanned the battlefield for any of my companions as I lay in the dirt. My heart sank as i realised there were no familiar faces around me. I let my head fall back onto blood soaked dirt. I didn't mind blood pouring out of my crippled leg. I just wanted it to be over...I wanted to die. I smiled as the dark unknown welcomed me into its embrace.

A voice. A voice spoke to me. Wait...not to me...it was me. How was I alive? Did I survive?! Suddenly the fog in my mind cleared. No. I didn't survive. Dead. Gone. Forgotten. I was erased from history. I was just one of the millions of dead, mutilated soldiers to be thrown into a pit and burnt to ashes. Not even a burial. I tried to stand up...but of course...I had no limbs, no muscles, no body to move. Was this what death is? Listening to the dark castle of my mind for eternity? To watch earth with unseeing eyes? To smell nothing but the scent of my miserable soul? Was this my destiny? I regretted my thoughts from before...I didnt want this...I didnt want to be dead...
