Word Count: 6.270The hallway was cold and Harry suspected it wasn’t always like that, only when he came to visit. Just as he knew Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy could be nice, loving people, but not to Harry. He knocked softly and entered.
Narcissa was sitting by the window, looking down at her gardens. “I had beautiful gardens, Mr. Potter. I never imagined they would become this.”
Harry walked to the window, not because he wanted to see the gardens, but because he knew he should attempt to be polite. The gardens weren’t ugly, or abandoned, but they missed something; it was obvious they had been cared to by the house-elves, not their human mistress.
“Can’t you… go on after this…”
“I will have a grandson to look after, Mr. Potter.” She wasn’t angry yet, but it was obvious she would have preferred a different company. “He’s waiting for you.”
Harry opened the door to Draco’s bedroom and stepped in as quietly as he could. The Healers had explained that it was normal for him to sleep as much as he did, and had urged everyone to disturb him as little as possible.
Lucius was sitting on a chair by the bed, reading. When he heard Harry, he looked up and nodded softly. He set the book on the nightstand and got up.
“He woke up about an hour ago and ate a little,” he whispered. “He’s to take his medicine in thirty minutes, so you should wake him up.”
Harry nodded, “Did the Healers say anything else?”
Lucius shook his head. “I suspect they’re afraid they’ll be proven wrong. I’ll go now. I promised Narcissa we’ll go to the theatre. Should anything happen, call the Healers and summon us.”
Harry nodded and sat on the chair. Nothing had ever happened while he was there, and no matter how much he wanted to do something to help Draco through this, he knew he couldn’t handle seeing him during a seizure.
“Harry.” Draco’s voice was soft and frail, just like he was.
“Were you pretending to be asleep?” Harry smiled fondly and took Draco’s hands in his, massaging them slowly.
“No, but you worried so loud, I woke up.”
Harry tried to smile, but it felt wrong to smile when things were so bad. He turned his head away as if Draco didn’t know and took a deep breath. “How could I not worry?”
“Well… of course you should worry. Coming everyday to the Malfoy Manor, talking to Narcissa Malfoy, then Lucius Malfoy and then,” his eyes widened, mimicking shock, “spending a whole hour with Draco Malfoy. Of course you should worry. Your sanity is in grave danger.”
Harry smiled then and sat on the bed, next to Draco. “Your reasons are always better than mine.”
“Has mother bothered you again?”
“No. She’s been nice.” Considering the fact that she had hexed and hit him on previous visits. “Told me about her garden.”
Draco snorted. “I’m surprised it took her that long. When I was ten and Father told me what I’ll have as a Malfoy, she lectured me for hours about the importance of a proper garden.” Draco frowned a bit and turned to look at Harry. “Did she ask you to take care of the thing?” Harry shook his head and Draco was visibly relieved. “She always said it would be my duty when she couldn’t do it anymore and I thought… well… it doesn’t matter.”
