Chapter 8: Time to Act

Chapter 8 START

(Location: 30th Floor: Fields of Howling Wolves)

July 3, 2026

"So you've been up on a mountain for a whole month?!" Asuna cried in disbelief as she harshly stabbed her spear through one of the wolves' eyes, a location that would almost always result in critical damage.

"Yup," Naruto said cheerfully as he slashed through another one of the wolves in the pack, his white blade glinting as he ducked under a swiping paw and retaliated. His sword quickly cut the legs of the wolf, rendering it unable to fight. With this, it was simple for Naruto to finish it off with a swift, executing slice to the neck.

"Why'd it take so long, Naruto?" Kirito asked with a bored expression as he flipped backwards. Landing on the balls of his feet, he quickly did a half-circle spin and grabbed the airborne Silica, who had been struck by one of the larger wolves in the pack. However, the alpha wolves still hadn't come out, so until then, the group of four would have to hold off the endless pack of wolves that were currently surrounding them. That may sound difficult, but for the four of them, no task was altogether too great.

"You alright?" Kirito asked the girl in his arms. Silica gave a quick nod. The black haired swordsman sighed and placed her on her feet before giving her a gentle push on her back. "Off you go then. Be more careful," he warned; either way, he would make sure to keep an eye on her.

"The proper question is why did it take so little time to learn what I did!" Naruto shouted quite a distance away, slicing through the pack of wolves and forcing the wolves to create a new circle around him. "Oh?" The blond said playfully, his eyes full of mischief and also determination as his lips curled up in a half-smirk. "You want to play with me, puppies?"

"Yip!" Kurama stated helpfully from his position atop Naruto's mop of hair, enjoying his ride across the field immensely, completely ignoring the deaths of the wolves and instead being fascinated by the floating pixels once they were destroyed.

"Right, Kurama. Whatever you say," Naruto said in return before his white blade gleamed, gaining a bright, ethereal light before the blond's own body began to shine with white. "Hang on tight, Kurama! Namikaze Sword Skill: Horizontal Tornado!" Naruto shouted as he became a blur of destruction, slicing his way through dozens of wolves with ease before he finally stopped spinning.

Once his skill stopped and started to go on cooldown, Naruto slammed his sword into the ground to prevent himself from falling due to the dizziness currently affecting him.

"What are you talking about, Naruto? Nothing should take that long, right?" Asuna asked, jumping over a few wolves to get over to Naruto's side to protect him until he regained his bearings. "Ha!" The beautiful rapier user shouted in exertion, striking at the jugular of a charging wolf. Upon impact, the wolf whimpered before it disappeared in a multitude of pixels. This process continued for a while until Naruto finally got over his vertigo and was able to stand without using the sword as a support.

"Thanks, Asuna. As for your question previously, the training I went through was supposed to take six months. I just…cheated a little to make it go faster." To prove that he was back in the game, Naruto quickly took out one of his daggers from his pouch and threw it into the air before switching places with it. In the air, Naruto looked in one direction as he twirled his blade before finally placing it on his shoulder and burst forward. "Original Sword Skill: Zantetsuken!" A second later, a whole line of wolves disappeared into blue shards with the sound of breaking glass to accompany their deaths.
