We're Stuck Here

It was sunset, though you couldn't tell. Grey clouds covered the sky, and black ones looked as though they were rolling in. Chloe and Lucifer had just finished a case somewhere on the plains, and we're now driving back. The country was relaxing, and the smell of pre-rain always comforting.

Then the down pour started. Soft at first, just a sprinkle, but soon they couldn't see anything. Sheets of water cascaded down the windshield, and the wipers were not helping.

"What the hell if this?" Lucifer asked. "This is LA, not London."
"I don't know, but driving isn't safe. I'm gonna-"

The car sputtered and Chloe pulled of to the side just before it shut off.

"We'll shit. That's just fantastic."
"You we're gonna pull over anyway."
"Yeah, but now when the weather stops, the car won't start again. Hang on, let me look under the hood."
"Where did you learn about cars?"
"Ella taught me."

Lucifer nodded. Chloe got out and shut the door quickly. Within seconds she was drenched and cold. She walked in front of her car and opened the hood. She had limited knowledge, but of what she did know, the car looked fine. She shut it when Lucifer got out of the car and walked over to her.

"Anything wrong?"
"Not that I can see. We're stuck here."

Lucifer sighed and turned around. A light shown in the distance, barely visible, but if the light was on that meant shelter. He tapped Chloe's arm and pointed.

"Might as well." Chloe said.

They started trudging through the open field. It was hard to move, the rain had turned the field into a pigs pen, so not even two steps in they were up to their ankles in mud. Chloe took another step, but slipped and fell into the mud.

Lucifer froze and looked back. Chloe was shaking, and at first he though she was crying, but when she looked up, he realized she laughing. The back of Chloe's hand lifted to wipe her nose, and then she tried to stand before falling again. Her laughter echoed louder, and Lucifer couldn't help but join in.

He walked over and reached out to help her up, she took hold and instead of standing up, he yanked him down. He fell down next to her, mud splashing everywhere. Their laughter sounded across the field. Chloe sat up and scooped some mud from the side, she threw it on Lucifer before getting up to move away.

Lucifer stood up quickly and caught her. He wrapped Chloe in a hug from behind and kissed her cheek. Their laughter was quieter now, just giggles drowned out by the thudding of rain. Thunder boomed across the sky followed by a bright flash. They both froze to look at the sky.

"We should probably be moving towards the house." She started.
"Agreed, I don't feel like getting struck by lightning."

Chloe laughed again. Lucifer kissed her on the cheek one more time before untangling himself. She grabbed his hand and they made their way to the house in the distant. Thunder boomed again, but they had made it to the front door. They knocked and a young women came to the door, she was maybe thirty.

Chloe was shocked, she hadn't expected someone so young to answer, but hoped it meant they could enter.

The brunette who opened the door looked dumbfounded. It was quite a strange sight to see, the most handsome man she had ever seen next to quite an attractive blonde if she was being honest. But it was hard to tell because both were covered head to toe in mud.

"Hi," Chloe started. "I know this is weird, but our car broke down, we were wondering if we could maybe stay inside just until the rain subsides?"
"Uh,"

The brunettes eyes shot to Lucifer, who smiled in response. She blushed and smiled back.

"Yeah, come on in."

They said their thanks and went inside. Chloe leaned into Lucifer and whispered.

"Times like these I especially love being your girlfriend."

Lucifer smiled, and after they entered the girl closed the door, and the sound of pounding rain was muffled.
