Chapter 4

Knock. Knock. "miss are you awake, Mr and Mrs want you to join them for breakfast" the maid woke me up from my sleep. I replied, Okay. When we reached home after-party last night. I was asked to sleep in my previous room. To my surprise, the room is a lot more decent now.

I took a quick shower and wore a normal pair of jeans with tees and went downstairs, no one talked a word while eating. It was William Jones who started the conversation " Evelyn are you, friends, with Hayden? I saw you spent a lot of time talking to him and his family." 

I nodded. He continued " Good. Good. I want you to introduce Hayden to your sister Tina. They make good pair. It will also benefit our company to tie up with Mathews."

They want me to do introduce him to her. Hell, I will never do that. He is a good guy I don't want a bitch like tina to be in his life.

Linda added "aren't you grateful for the Jones family, they took you in and gave you food, shelter and education? Do that for the sake of your grandfather."

They know that I will listen when they mention grandfather, the old man has been kind and supportive. The Jones Group was started by him. He worked hard to bring the company to this level. William Jones is not as talented as grandpa, I don't want his work and hope to be wasted. I said ok either way I don't have a life with Hayden. He introduced me as his friend to his parents. Maybe it was just me who thought all that. He thought of me as his friend.

I didn't want to introduce Tina to Hayden. Even if I didn't they would have thought other ways. Evelyn can't be with him. She's no one. Just an adopted daughter who holds no share.

I asked Hayden to accompany me to the cafe, there I introduced Tina to him. And told them that I have some work and get off from the cafe. It seems that tina took a liking towards him.

My new job has been tiring but it was so far the high earning job I have ever had. My life was going smooth. I started saving money for college If I continue this work for another two years. I would have enough money.

On my way home, my phone rang. " Hello," I answered. "Hey Eve, how are you doing?" It was Hayden. His voice will always make butterfly fly in my stomach." I'm fine and you" I replied. "I'm fine, I'm getting engaged with Tina this Saturday, I want you to be there, ok" " ok" I replied.

There goes my love. When I was first bought to the Jones family, I was playing near the pool, I suddenly slipped into the water, he saved me. From then on he has always been a little concerned towards me. He was always in contact with me. But no one in this family, really knows that.

Their families kind of accepted their union. They were very busy greeting other guests. I on the other hand was left alone as usual. To my surprise, I saw Henry here. He said he is now working for Hayden. It was really surprising to see him here. He hated Tina, but still, he is here for Hayden.

The engagement happened, everyone was happy. I was a little sad, but I cannot do anything about it even if I want to. It was never meant to happen between me and Hayden and I have accepted fate. Hayden came to me, talked for a while so did his parents. I said goodbye to Henry and was about to leave.  But Tina approached me with two champagne glass. She looked gorgeous in the evening gown. "Evelyn, I'm sorry I have troubled you a lot in the past yet you still helped me find my love of life and asked for nothing in return. I will be forever grateful to you. If you drink it, I will take it as you have accepted my apology"

I was surprised, love can turn even a bitch into a human. She sounded so sincere and I believed her. I'm happy that she has changed her character for Hayden. It is a good thing to start. I accepted her drink. We talked a little more and started for my home.

When I reached the hotel entrance, I started to feel a little dizzy, I didn't know my alcohol tolerance was this low. But I only drank one champagne. The world has suddenly turned dark. I felt like someone carried me. But I really couldn't open my eyes.

When I opened my eyes, my whole body was so painful I heard someone speaking over her phone "oh, thank you, Mr Hayden, I liked your gift last night. Consider our deal signed."

I was startled when I heard of Hayden's name. He purposely gets me into the old man's bed. I was an idiot to believe Tina. She must have added something to the drink. I got dressed and went to Hayden office. How dare he and Tina take advantage of her. I will teach them a good lesson today.

I went to his office, I heard three voices they sounded happy. It triggered my anger when I was about to open the door. I heard Hayden say " I didn't think Evelyn would satisfy old John that he readily signed our deal" "didn't I say she was a whore, she would be the right one for this" answered Tina. Henry added "she always acts high and mighty but the whole school knows about her that's why no one was friends with her"

The pain she felt in her heart was unbearable. She was betrayed by her friend and lover. She opened the door, the smile on their faces faded.  "I have recorded what you just talked about. I will make all three of you lose your face. Who gave you the rights to take me for granted.  I didn't think you would betray me I thought you were my friend" I shouted, " Me your friend I was just acting. I was really in friends with Tina, she wants me to make sure no one speaks to you. You have to suffer for what you have done, and you know what she promised me my own company."

Hearing him speak that, I felt sad and I turned to Hayden "you, I thought you were different but you proved me wrong" " oh sorry Eve, I have always loved Tina but I never dared to speak to her, you bought her to me, I must be thankful to you. But after listening to Tina about your real character I have changed, my opinion, of you. I was carrying towards you because I know you would be used to me in some way. That thing last night was your gratitude to my care to you. Don't think so highly of you"

Hayden's every word hurt me more and more, I can't believe I loved this man. "I'm sorry Evelyn," Tina said while hitting my head with something.

My head hurts when I opened my eyes I saw I was in an abandoned building. "Oh, I see you woke up, Oh Evelyn I'm so happy now. I have always hated you, so I made sure everyone hates you, my parents, the maid, the school but grandfather never hated you that old fool can see through me and have known my hatred towards you. I came to know all things about Hayden and our grandfather.

I even heard about grandfather sending you to a prestigious college. I mixed poison in his milk. How will I let you lead a happy life, never when I'm around.

Do you know why I'm saying all this to you? I know you are never going out of this building alive. God, why. Why am I destined to this life, there is only hatred and no love. Am I not worth living a better life? Suddenly, there was fire everywhere. Everything turned black.
