Chapter 1

"Welcome to the 278th Hunter Exam, please put this number tag on your shirt and wait for the exam to begin." A man announced as he handed a black haired teen a tag with the number '69' on it. This teen's name was Kalen. Kalen Takahashi.

He hadn't even taken a few steps before a fatass man came up to him holding a can of juice.

"Hello! My name is Tonpa, nice to meet you!", the man said.

"I see. Nice to meet you as well", Kalen replied, forcing a smile.

"I've never seen you here before, heh heh. You must be a rookie?" Tonpa exclaimed, with a disgusting smile on his face.

"So? Why does that matter to you? Fucking bitch", he spat. He was losing his patience already. He can't stand people like this.

"Heh heh, I happen to be veteran. Actually, the record holder for most consecutive attempts at the Hunter Exam. I'm sure I can help you, no need to be so hostile.  How about a toast to our friendship? Hm?", Tonpa said, holding up a can of juice to his face.

"I'm not thirsty, and I don't need your fucking help. Go bother someone else." The other man laughed nervously before turning and leaving him alone.

Nobody bothered Kalen after that, so he decided to sit down and observe the other contestants. A while later Tonpa had already found himself three new targets, a group of three by the names Gon, Kurapika and Leorio. Good luck to them then.

Surprisingly, the green haired boy had an incredibly strong sense of smell and was able to detect whatever Tonpa had spiked the drink with. Tonpa apologized nervously and claimed he didn't know that the juice was 'expired', but anyone with more sense than a rock could probably see through him.

Just then, a scream was heard and Kalen got up see what the commotion was. Somebody's arms were turning into a bloody shroud of flowers as a pink haired magician stood with a creepy grin spreading across his face. Lovely. Just what he wanted to see.

A few moments later, a wall opened revealing a seemingly endless tunnel along with a man in a purple suit.

"I sincerely apologize for the wait, the entry period for Hunter Exam applicants has now come to a close. The Hunter Exam will be starting now.", the man says, making many people excited.

"A final caution, if you are short on luck or ability there is a high chance to end up fatally injured or even dead. Those who accept these risks follow me. Otherwise exit via the elevator.", the man warned. He proceeded to wait a few moments but no one left.

"Very well. All 404 applicants will participate in Phase One. Follow me.". And with that the man began to walk in an awkward fashion, with his arms and legs swinging at his sides.
