I've always liked the sunrise more than the sunset.
Something about it gives me hope. It marks the start of something new. New possibilities and new opportunities all come with the beautiful blur of red, pink, and orange hues.
My foster mother always told me that before the sun sets each day, I should always achieve one thing. Even if it seems small and insignificant to someone else. As long as it matters to me it counts. Although we think we have an unlimited amount of sunrises and sunsets, we don't. That's why she always told me to do the most and absolute best between sunrise and sunset.
I think this is the reason I like the sunset less. It's the beginning of the end. A reminder of everything you haven't done. The devil in Prada.
People watch the sunset because they associate it with calmness, beauty, and romance. I've always associated it with the last few grains of sand falling through the hourglass.
I sit in front of my windowsill with my water paints, splashing colours across the page. I'm attempting to recreate the sun rising over the buildings from the view of my apartment.
For now, I watch the sunrise in hope.
