Present Day
"My parents were surprised at first," Elizabeth began, deciding to answer Idina's question truthfully, "But they accepted me and my powers. My dad eventually joined the army and went MIA. My mom couldn't cope for a long time until she suddenly acted like all was normal and well. After that, we all lived together happily, though not ever after."
"Wow. Did you ever learn whether or not your dad died?" Idina wondered.
"No. But we guess he's dead. I mean, maybe his body burned up or something. It's been over 10 years," Elizabeth told.
There was a short moment of silence for both John's memory and the lack of a happy topic.
"What do you want me to call you, anyway?" Elizabeth asked. "Idina, Dee, Miss Menzel, Dina, Adele Dazeem..."
Idina laughed. "You can call me either Idina or Dee, whichever one you like best."
"Okay. Honestly, for a while, i was never a big fan of Dee, but eventually i got used to it," Elizabeth said.
"Usually it doesn't bother you if that isn't what you are being called," Idina recalled.
"What can I say? I'm a devoted Fanzel," Elizabeth answered witb a laugh.
Her happiness changed to nervousness when she saw the next road sign. They were almost there.
"Hey, everything will work out okay. There's nothing to worry about, this is your best friend," Idina assured.
"It's not her i'm worried about, it's the people after us. They could easily hurt any of us, and i can't stand to hurt her," Elizabeth sighed.
After a little more driving, the group pulled into the parking lot.
Elizabeth stepped out first and faced the middle school.
"You go first," Idina urged, giving her a little nudge.
She hesitantly walked forwards at first, but then moved in a fast pace when she grew confident. Her boots clicked on the floor in a steady pace.
Her breathing picked up when she came inside the building and avoided the office. Some student who stayed after school roamed the halls.
A group of eighth graders stopped and stared at them, half of them fan girling over Kristin and Idina, and the other half fan girling over her adorable son.
After the girls ran away so their parents would not get upset, the group moved onward.
Elizabeth moves forward, her stomach churning in a mix of excitment and nervousness.
Her heart leaped as she turned the final corner.
