*Peyton's point of view*

As usual, I walked to my lunch table with my headphones in, blocking everyone out for the sweet five minutes between the end of fifth period and the beginning of lunch.

"Peyton Elizabeth Sawyer, you take those headphones out and listen to me," I faintly heard the words come from my best friend Brooke. Reluctantly I pulled out my right earbud and sarcastically make it clear that I'm listening. She made it apparent that one ear was not enough and pulled out my left earbud, a little harder then necessary.

"That's better," she smiled her Brooke Davis smile and I couldn't help but grin back.

"What's the news?" I asked, she had made it obvious that she had something important to tell me.

"Okay so my mom," she rolled her eyes at the thought of her absent mother, Victoria, "is coming to the game this Friday, weird right? She'll actually be in town for once. So we've gotta put together a cheer routine that will make her hate herself for never coming to watch me cheer last year."

"Yeah, sounds good. Why is she coming to this one?"

"Who knows, I'm surprised that she even remembers that she has a kid." She laughed sarcastically, but only I could tell that she was actually really sad about her mom. She was never around and Brooke basically lived by herself. She tried to shake it off like she didn't care, but I knew that she really just wanted her mom to love her.

"In other news, who is that?" she pointed her finger to a blonde kid sitting a few tables away.

I looked quickly and lied, "I don't know, why?"

She scoffed, "He's only been staring at you for ten minutes now." She laughed, "Honestly Peyton, there are times when I think that you forget how cute you are." At this she reached out and grabbed a strand of my curly hair and flipped it behind my back. "I gotta go, but we should start on that routine later."

"Yeah, definitely. I'll call you after school." And off she went, walking as confident as ever. She was only a sophomore, but every guy's eyes - including the seniors- followed her as she walked away.

I put my headphones back on and turned on a random Fall Out Boy song and thought about the blonde boy, who was probably staring at me right now. I knew exactly who he was, Lucas Scott. My boyfriend, Nathan's, half-brother. I caught him staring at me a lot, but I had gotten good at pretending that I didn't notice him. It was actually kinda funny, the way he got all embarrassed when his friend would yell at him for staring. If Nathan ever found out that he liked me, boy would he be in trouble. I laughed at the thought. Just then the bell rang and I got up and walked to sixth period, walking extra slow when I passed by my admirer. Brooke would get a kick outta that, I'd have to tell her later.
