Part 23

Peps POV

The weekend went my quickly, soon it was Monday and we had to go to school. "Get up." Bob yells, I get up for school, once I'm ready with makeup, this time I have a polka dot dress on with a sweater over it.

Soon it's 8 and I'm heading to English, when I walk in I see Johnny and Liv sitting next to each other talking. It hurts my heart but I act like I don't notice, I sit down when Pony comes in, "hey Johnny, hey Liv." He says completely ignoring me, my heart fils with sadness, I can't ask it any more. I go to the teacher and ask to use the restroom, while I'm walking down the hallway some socs come up in front of me, "so honey, you need a ride?" One of them asks, "no, please let me keep going." They shake their heads, I try to walk past them when one of them slaps me on the cheek, "wait, it that the chick that lives with Bob?" One of them asks, "oh no, let's get out of here." With that they run out of the school.

I walk to the bathroom by now really late for class, I see a bruise forming, I pull my hair in front of it and hide it as much as possible. "Hey Penelope you in here?" I here Liv call walking in, "the teacher wants me to find you. What happened?" She says running over, I tell her what happened, "Bob will kill them for you." I nod because I knew he would.

We walk back in the classroom, I see Pony's eyes light up as he sees me, I wish I could see a mirror, I started to panic worrying about what it looked like. "hey Penelope." liv whispers then she hands me a note, "Johnnys come over after school Bob wont be there."  I read it and nod, she smiles, my heart sinks.

The final school bell rings and I head out the door, I walk slowly knowing Johnny and Liv will catch up, soon I hear them talking behind me, "yeah my parents won't care." Johnny says, "why though, if you don't mind me asking?" "They don't care much for me, so you are sure your brother won't be home?" Johnny says, when all the sudden I see Bobs car, "shoot, Johnny duck." I say quickly, Bob cars slows down and he cranks the window down, "hey girls." He says, I move close to the window and push my head in, "hey I have nothing do to today, could we catch a movie?" I say, he smiles, "sure, we can go early and make sure we get the best parking spots." I nod and fake smile.

I slid in his car, and made sure he couldn't see out the window. "Let's go." I say, "you fine with that Liv, we might be gone a few hours?" Liv nods her head and gives me a thank you with her eyes. "Floor it." And that's what Bob did.

Johnny's POV

I told Pony to pick Rose up form the elementary, because Liv invited me, I know I'm supposed to wait for Pep but she seems fine with this. I was having fun talking to Liv until Pep turns to look at me, "Shoot Johnny duck!" I jump in a alley next to us, and hear Bob pull up, "Johnny you can come out now, Bobs going to the movies with Penelope, they'll be gone for an hour or so." She say and grabs my hand. I liked Pep but this Liv girl had my great flush, we get to her really nice soc house and we watch a show while talking about life. "I should get going." I say soon, "I don't want to get caught here." She nods, "thank you for coming, I had a lot of fun." "I did to." I say we both smile, then I lean in and kiss her, she doesn't pull away.

On my walk home I realize, if Pep was at the movies with Bob then dose that mean she likes him. Pep seems so mean now, she probably doing it to make sure we know not to talk to her. And with what Dally said she did the other day, grabbed his hand. A the sudden I see Bobs car turn the corner, it's getting dark out and I'm all alone. "Hey greaser." Bob says as he slows down next to me, I look in the car it's just him and Pep, "Bob come on let's leave." Pep says, "not just yet." Bob says getting out of the car, "Bob!" Peps yells as she gets out and runs around the car towards me. "Bob don't!" She says standing between me and Bob. "Move, I don't want to hurt you." Bob says madly, "he's not the one Bob, it was a soc, not Johnny!" Bob still looks mad.

I'm afraid to run because Bob might go after me, but if I don't he might hurt Pep, I take off sprinting as fast as I can. I look back to see Bob hit Pep square in the gut, I can't believe he would do that.

When I get to the Curtises house I walk in, I must look a little shaken because Darry says, "what's wrong Johnny?" I look at all of them who are now looking at me, then Rose comes up and hugs me, "it's Penelope, Bob was going jump me but she got in the way and I ran, and Bob hits her. Hard." I say and then sit on the couch, "I'm going kill that mother...." "Dally, don't we have kids ears present." Darry says, now Pony gets mad, "you mean kid, not kids?" Darry and him give each other death glares, Dally leaves, "you are still a kid." Darry yells at pony, "I'm a teenager." Pony yells, they get in a fight while I sit on the couch, Rose runs out of the house.

"Rose!" I yell, and run after her. "Rose, wait, stop." I grab her shoulder and she stops, "what's wrong?" I look in her eyes and their filled with tears. "They sound like mom and dad." She says and starts sobbing, "it's ok, I'm here, it's ok." I say while pulling her in a hug.

We walk back in the Curtises house and Sodas the only one up, "what happened?" He asks, "the fighting sounds like our so called parents." I whisper to him while Rose uses the bathroom. He nods and looks sad, "night." "Night." I say, Rose lays on the couch and I lay on the other side while pulling the blankets over us.
