It's a long process to transition to a fae completely. A painful one at that too. I was scared all the time, of transforming accidentally. I stayed home for a week not even going outside of the house. I'm not able to control my appearance so when I transform accidentally I'll just vanish and I won't be able to manipulate people's vision so that they see just normal me doing whatever I'm doing.
It's been hours of practice with mom and dad and shijie. Yes I started calling them mom and dad already. I mean what's the point when my heart even wants it. When I keep calling them mom and dad accidentally.
I remember exhausting myself practicing day and night that at the end of the day I won't be able to stay up straight.
Learning martial arts, sword fighting, then using guns are completely different things. When it comes to controlling my fae magic it seems that the power in my body has its own soul and thinking capabilities too.
"A-Zhan, you have to be in sync with your power, not control it." Dad said one day. And I'm trying. Really hard.
And today is the day me and shijie will take our heavenly oath again. To be sworn brother and sister.
We're in the car going out of Beijing. I'm sitting on the window side of the backseat. Shijie is sitting on my right side with mom by her side. After an hour the scenario outside the car starts changing rapidly.
When we reach a hotel at the countryside it was already late in the afternoon. We plan on going to the temple in the evening and then take the oath at midnight.
In the hotel we just take some rest and have some food. Then at around eight we started walking to reach the temple on the hill.
It's a long walk. But none of them seem to be feeling tired. Well of course they aren't. They're faes after all. Then why am I tired already?
"Because you're still training. You'll be able to when you have fully synchronization with your power." Mom said not looking at me.
"Did you just read my mind? Again?" It's getting annoying. I know this time I didn't say it out loud, like the last time dad said I did!
"You said it out loud, A-Zhan!"
"Come on! I didn't. I know I didn't."
Shijie just smiles looking at me and mom bickering about something so trivial! I'm sure she's enjoying herself too much!
The past week I learnt a lot about her. Before I haven't ever seen her or even heard about her. But suddenly out of nowhere a shijie comes into my life with whom I have to take an oath shortly.
We reached the temple on the top of the hill and entered through the moldy gate which gives out a smell of wet earth after rain. Wild vines are twisted around the gate and the side of the gate is broken. It looks more like an abandoned monastery than a temple. On the side of the gate there was a stone with some scriptures on it. It said, "The truth reveals itself on the other side."
I don't know what truth exactly they're talking about and how exactly can the truth be revealed in this sort of place. I'll have to find out I guess.
But what I didn't expect was after entering through the gate the scenary changed completely. We were standing in a beautiful garden with night lillies allover the place and the fragrance of the place made my head swim. And all of our appearance changed too. We all have our Fae appearance. Then I heard something. But it was coming from inside my head. No one was talking. I knew because I saw them not moving their lips at all. It was shijie's voice.
"This is where we can actually really read your thoughts. And you can read ours too. So be careful what you think about. You might not want your parents to be embarrassed!"
She even teases me in thoughts?
"I can hear that A-Zhan."
Dad looked at the both of us shaking his head and started leading the way to our final destination. The labyrinth that led to the main entrance of the temple wasn't easy for a normal person. But when we entered dad sent out a glow from his hand and we followed it to reach the entrance very easily.
Inside the temple it was a beautiful marble structure with water fountains on the four sides. In the centre there stood a statue with four faes facing the four sides. Small babies sat around their feet. And in the middle there is a crystalline structure connecting the four. I was wondering what could the statue mean.
Dad probably heard my thought. So he started explaining. "The four faes stand for the four elements of the universe." But even before he could finish a voice came from behind us.
"One for Sky, facing the North
One for earth, facing the South
With fire on East and water on West
The universe in the middle, completes the quest."There stood a beautiful figure with green hair and green jade eyes looking at me directly. Her face was like porcelain. Her hair floats defying gravity. Her beautiful green outfit reaches the floor and floats beyond. She looked at me like she knows me.
"It's been a lifetime, Xiao Mafan!" And then the smile she gave awed me. I couldn't move at all. She can pass as an young lady anyday. And her beauty is out of the world.
Then I saw shijie bow down to greet her.
"Greetings, Priestess."
"A-Li. Call me grandmother when it's just me." The dazzling smile never leaving her face. Grandmother? The smile in her face widened. And mom gasped looking at me.
"A-Yu, he's just a kid." She said to mom. And looked at me. "In this place we are all pure. We have nothing hidden here. Whatever you feel, whatever you think is open to all." I look at her dumbfounded. Which makes her amused. "That is not a bad thing. You can think anything, you can feel anything, and this place will consume them all. We have no power over the universe to taint its purity."
She took us to the upper hall and there were the four faes from the statue. They sat together with their eyes closed.
I was awed and speechless!
