Jason Todd stood atop the Titans tower... again. Dick heard the alarm go off in his communication link, tucked inside his left ear. Jason had been on suicide watch for a month now, but he hadn't acted on anything. Yet.
Dick ascended the stairs to the roof and closed the door, gently behind him and calmly walked across the gravel rooftop in the San Francisco heat.
"I keep falling." Jason said, hurt tearing in his voice.
"You're okay." Dick said, tucking his hands in the pocket of his pants and advancing towards the boy. Jason stepped atop the ledge now. Dick could read his posture. The teen was ambivalent. That was good. Well, good enough. There was still help. There was still time. "You don't want to do this, Jay."
Jason finally looked and acknowledged Dick's presence. "Hi... Dick."
The older brother sighed. Hadn't heard that one before. Dick apologized for himself, for the team, for Jason. They hadn't been good to him. He was just a kid and he was struggling.
"Why don't you come inside and get something to eat? We got popsicles."
"I'm not a fucking kid, Dickhead."
Okay. So... NOT a kid. Got it.
Jason looked down. He could no longer hear the traffic, feel the wind- he felt nothing. It was hot. He wished that he wasn't wearing a leather jacket because now he was dizzy. It was incapacitating. Was he even sweating.
Dick said something about heat stroke and then Jason toppled forward...
