Logan was sitting at home, filling herself with warm, buttery popcorn, as she watched a war movie with her brother Daniel, who sat at the opposite end of the couch.
"I never understood why if movies like this have super over-the-top action, why do they never show any blood? Everybody is getting shot but no one is bleeding. Doesn't make any sense to me." Daniel said.
"It's PG-13 dude. Doesn't make much sense to be gory." Logan replied.
"Yeah I know, but still."
Before Logan could reply, the power went out. She wasn't immediately concerned. In Brooklyn, it wasn't exactly rare for a power outage in the middle of Summer.
"Why does everyone on our block have to use power at the same time we do?" Daniel asked.
Logan started laughing. She grabbed a couch pillow and threw it at Daniel. "Stop complaining nerd." Daniel easily caught the pillow and threw it back at his sister.
Logan and Daniel weren't just twins. They were best friends and rivals. They would always try to one-up each other. In school and training. They always tried to beat each other.
Logan had a black belt in Karate, Tae Kwon Do, and Krav Maga. Daniel was a second degree black belt in all three.
Their father was a cop. He put them in those classes when they were both five-years old.
Logan was being bullied by this seven-year old who thought he was a badass because he was older and bigger.
Daniel punched him in the nose and broke it. But his goons started attacking them both.
Logan came home with a black eye and Daniel had been left with a scar on his lip that today helped to impress most girls he met.
When they showed up at home, their mother went into an immediate uproar. She would've burned down the whole school if it meant finding the kid who attacked her children.
After that incident, their father put them in fighting classes. If there wasn't going to be anyone to protect his kids, then they would need to be able to protect themselves.
"When do you think dad is coming home?" Daniel asked.
"No idea," replied Logan. "But in the meantime since there's nothing to do, I'm going to take a nap."
"Sleep tight nerd."
