Casey

Casey has dirty-blonde, wavy hair that falls to the middle of her back. She stands at 5 feet, 4 inches tall, which is about average for a seventeen year-old in her small town of Bancroft, West Virginia. She has sky blue eyes, which she thinks is the best part of her body, so when she picked the color of her contacts, she chose clear. She lives in a 3-bedroom, red house with her mom.

Casey’s father died when she was young, about 6 years old.  She has very little memories of him, but her mother tries to share as much information about him that she can. She is very close to her mother, as they have more of a friendship relationship than they do a mother-daughter relationship.  She also has a heart-shaped locket that her mother gave her when she was 4 years old.  She never takes it off, as it is close to her heart, and she always feels safe when she’s wearing it.  It has the distinct smell of her father’s Ax body spray, which makes her feel as if he’s always with her.  Although she’s always curious as to what’s inside the locket, she could never get it open, so it remains a mystery.

She has plenty of friends, known popularly, at her school, but she only has two close friends, who she spends every waking moment that she can with. These two girls are Aide and Mel.

She also has a crush on Aide’s nineteen year-old brother, Jake. Although they barely talk, she spends a lot of time thinking about him and how she wishes they could become closer friends.

Aide

Adrianne, who was nicknamed Aide when she was little, is the same age as her BFF, Casey. She has blonde, curly hair that has grown to become shoulder length. She stands at 5 feet 2 inches, just a few inches shorter than Casey. She has brown eyes, which she has grown used to, even though she, ironically, hates the color brown. She wears glasses, but is soon getting contacts because she cannot play her favorite sport, soccer, with glasses.

Aide lives with her divorced mother in the pale peach-colored duplex that sits right next to Casey’s house.  Some days each month, she goes to visit her father, who lives across town in a small 1-bedroom apartment. She doesn’t really get along with her father well, but has decided that the only way to make him happy is to spend time with him.

She cooperates fairly well with her nineteen year-old brother, Jake, with only outbursts when necessary. She knows about Casey’s major crush on him, and she’s completely okay with it. She likes the idea of her and Casey possibly becoming sisters in the future.

Mel

Melanie, who everybody calls Mel, is the other girl in the friendship triangle. She has red, naturally straight hair that falls just below her shoulders.  She stands at 5 feet, 1 inch, the shortest of the three girls. She originally has blue eyes, but wears yellow contacts, to make them green, which is her favorite color.

Mel lives in a blue house that is two blocks away from Aide and Casey. She lives with her father, her stepmom, and her two stepsisters, who are twins. Everybody gets along fairly well, with little squabbles here and there.

She loves to exercise and her favorite sports are soccer, basketball, and softball. She is captain of the basketball team; co-captains with a girl named Taneesha in soccer, and came in third to be captain of the softball team.  She also loves to run and swim.

Jake

Jake is a nineteen year-old boy with short, black hair. He normally leaves it go, but sometimes decides to use styling gel to spike it. He has hazel- colored eyes that sometimes change to gray depending on his mood. He stands at about 5 feet 9 inches and has a great muscular build.

Jake is Aide’s older brother, the one that Casey likes. He doesn’t know that she likes him, but he has secretly developed feelings for her over the past few years.

He, also, lives with his single mother, but unlike Aide, he does not go visit his father because he is an adult and had the choice to when he turned 18, but turned it down. He, too, doesn’t get along with his father.

Jake is not going to college; he decided to take a few years off after he graduated from high school. He works at a retail store across town, called Minitmart.  He normally works nightshifts, though, as he stocks shelves and sometimes works the cash register.
