Chapter 47 - Devil Host Nacht Faust

"The vice captain of the black bulls?" I narrow my eyes at him, not completely buying his story. "I would have met you by now"

"That's where you're wrong actually. I don't spend any time at the base, because I hate the black bulls"

"Hah? Why would you hate your own squad?"

"That's a story for another time, but right now I need to speak with you, and with the other devil host here."

"Asta? Well your out of luck right now he's out cold. The dark triad has take Captain Yami and Captain William"

"Hm I see, the two of them must have been weak then"

"Weak?!" My blood begins to boil. "The captains were anything but weak! Captain William sacrificed himself to save those of us that we're already dead, I'm alive right now because of him! He's not weak!"

"He was captured wasn't he?"

I stay silent, not wanting to argue with him anymore because knowing me, I'd break down. Flashes of memories I shared with William flash through my mind, he truly felt like another older brother for me. He took me in, gave me a family, made me stronger, and comforted me when I was down, just as a sibling should. I can't help but feel like I failed him.

"You must be the spirit king." Nacht speaks up again. "You're holding her back aren't you"

"Kaito what is he talking about?"

"I'm not holding her back" Kaito firmly states, his hands forming fists. "I'm keeping her alive"

"By all means she should have been able to beat one of the devils easily, but she lost."

"Shut up" Kaito growls at Nacht who grins at his reaction. "You don't know what the hell you're talking about"

"Oh but I do. Believe it or not I have done my homework on Y/n L/n. The Heart Kingdom's second princess, who was given to a noble family due to the power that would be gifted to her at a young age, and on the night you received your grimoire your family was killed in an attempt to scare you into handing over yourself to the killers. However, you chose to run away from the scene, eventually making it into clover kingdom and earning a spot in the best squad and living happily there with your friends and boyfriend. Do I have all that correct?"

"How the hell do you know all that" I take a step back, now completely freaked out about how much he knows

"I see everything from the shadows. Now, back to the point. If you're not holding her back, why hasn't she learned what Mana Queen is, or how to use it?"

'That's the spell that appeared in my grimoire that day and Kaito said not to read about it, he said I would eventually learn it but I never asked him about it after that'

"Because she needs to live"

"She won't if she doesn't learn that spell"

"You don't know what you're saying!" Kaito exclaims, clearly frustrated by the man in front of us. "Lady Evangeline died because of that spell! I'm not letting y/n suffer the same fate!"

"That's where you're wrong spirit king" Nacht says, taking out his grimoire and chanting something. He brings up shadows around us that show different images and videos of the previous holders of the grimoire and Kaito. Eventually, we come across one who is fighting what looks like a devil and Kaito quickly runs up to it.

"There she is....was this before I woke up?"

"Yes, she was fighting Megicula. You may know her right now as Vanica's devil that she has a contact with. Before she made a contract with Vanica, she roamed freely in the heart kingdom."

I watch closely the fight that continued in front of me. She dodge all of the attacks she sent easily and seemed like she was having an easy time against the devil. It all stopped however, when something hit her stomach.

"A curse....it looks like lolopechka's" i mutter quietly

"It's a different curse, but the same outcome. She died from the curse spirit king, not the spell"

Kaito stays silent, this new information probably overwhelming him. I look back at Nacht, who wears a close-eyed smile on his face, sending shivers up my spine.

"Now that that's taken care of.....looks like the other one has come to join the party" he puts his cloak back on and disappears into the shadows. Just then Asta comes rushing through, stopping right in front of me unable to move his body.

"Huh? Y/n what are you doing here? And I can't move my body...."

"Where do you think you're going?" He reappears, gaining Asta's attention. The two engage in conversation while Kaito stands further away, I assume thinking about something. I let out a breath, placing a hand on his shoulder and giving him a gentle smile. His face is painted with guilt and frustration as his gaze returns to the ground.

"Kaito, nothing is going to happen. I promised you I'd stay alive didn't I. I don't intend to break that promise."

"I'm still worried. We don't know if we can trust this guy, not only that but he's also devil possessed."

"I think we should go along with what he says for now. He knew a lot about me and you without even meeting us. Plus, he would have attacked us by now if he was truly our enemy. Right now this is our best bet."

"Y/n" Nacht calls, causing Kaito and I to turn to him. "You need to come with me. There's a lot you need to know about the devil hosts"

He dismisses Asta, making him go back inside to get some rest, then grabs my arm, taking me into the shadows with him. We soon arrive at an unfamiliar room that has a lot of books and papers everywhere. He removed his cloak and bag, then going up to the bookshelf and tosses one of the books to me. He leans on the desk, his ocean eyes staring blankly at me, making me shudder a bit under his gaze.

"That's the diary of the previous holder of your grimoire. See if you can find anything useful in there. Now, there are 3 devil hosts on their side. Vanica, Dante, and Zenon. You've fought with Zenon haven't you?"

"Yes...he mentioned taking me with them eventually"

"They're the ones that killed your family" he says blankly, my eyes widening

"What?"

"Dante more specifically did it. They want to revive the devils in order to bring havoc to the world, and they were hoping that with your power they could stand on top of it all. Because your magic is that powerful. Mana queen has the power to both bring life and bring destruction. They had done a lot of research on you from my understanding, and from what I had found while I was in the spade kingdom. Right now, you are out ultimate weapon, and I will be training Asta on how to harness his devil powers correctly. Unfortunately there's not much I can do about you, and your training. You'll have to learn how to activate the spell yourself."

"I understand" silence fills the room as I open the book, scanning through the pages. His own footsteps go back to the bookshelf, taking a book of his own and reading through it. After a while, I shut the book after finding nothing to help me. "There wasn't anything helpful in there."

"Then you'll just have to train. Tomorrow there is going to be a captain's meeting. You and Asta will be attending with me, and I'm sure that boyfriend of yours wants to see you too"

'That's right....he doesn't know I'm alive'

"You can stay here as long as you wish and look through the papers and books. I'm sure there will be something that benefits you somehow. You also can get here yourself with this" he hands me a small device with a magic circle on it and creates the same magic circle on the floor. "If you press the magic circle in the middle you can come here whenever you like."

"Thank you" I don't know what else to say to him, but he lets out a small chuckle

"I'll be back here tomorrow morning with Asta. From here we'll go to the captains meeting."

"Got it"
