Niall let out a quiet sigh, cerulean eyes peering out at the long line of fans waiting for the chance to meet him. Well, meet the others. Negative thoughts swarmed his mind as he slid the cap of his sharpie back on. He eyed the girls that seemed to slide right past him to get to the others, and it hurt. His lips turned up in a sadistic smile as he watched a girl sobbing over the two sentence conversation she had had with Louis.

He watched as the crowd of fans seemed to dwindle until it was nothing. His eyes were tired from just watching, his lack of conversation wearing down on his mind. He watched Zayn grinning at the flirty mom as she ushered her son away from them.

He let out another sigh. He knew the other lads wouldn't understand what he was feeling, especially Harry or Liam. He wasn't blind to the fans' preferences. It was all over Twitter and all over the signs at their concerts. It was evident during their time on the X Factor, but he had tried to keep it from bothering him. Now, it was almost too much. He was about to get up with the excuse of a bathroom break when a small voice caught his attention.

"Umm... Niall?" He peered in curiosity at the girl, barely  at her father's knees. Her eyes were shining with excitement and nervous tears, and Niall couldn't fight the smile that made its way to his face.

"What can I do for you today, sweetie?" He watched her eyes grow wide. She looked at her dad in disbelief, like him talking to her was so shocking. He felt a small flicker of warmth surge through him. He always felt like this when fans actually made him feel like he mattered.

"Can you... Umm," she mumbled, twirling her hair. "Can you take a picture of me and Z-Zayn?" As if an arctic wind blew through the room, Niall felt his blood run cold. Of course. She didn't want him. No one did.

Feigning a smile, he nodded stiffly. He nudged Zayn. He ignored his questioning glance before nodding his head towards the little girl. "Picture," was all he muttered, tone steely. Zayn looked confused before smiling and walking over to the girl. Niall snapped the picture quickly before security could stop them. Pictures weren't allowed, and he almost wished he had told her that.

Niall fell back into his chair, wordlessly handing the girl's father the camera. He grabbed his sharpie and started signing more CD booklets out of obligation, deciding to just ignore the rest of the people that walked by. He knew he was acting like a child, but at this point he didn't really care. He would gladly accept the earful he was gonna get from their tour manager.

Zayn, noticing the rapidly changing composure of the boy to his left, leaned in close. "What's wrong," he whispered. It wasn't meant as a question, and Niall knew that. He knew the hazel eyed man like the back of his hand.

He put on his best mask, not wanting to worry him anymore than he probably had. "It's nothing, Zayn. I promise. Let's just get back to this, yeah?" Niall tore his gaze from Zayn's skeptical face. He chose to doodle on Harry's face instead of dealing with him.

Niall felt a cool hand slide up his thigh, and his breath hitched. He look at Zayn incredulously. Zayn's face was perfectly composed, not letting it be known that his hand was nearly in his band mate's crotch. Of course, he overshot where his hand would be, but Niall didn't know that. Niall was just red in the face and scared to move. Zayn finally noticed, and blushed. He moved his hand to Niall's, giving it a tight squeeze. "Sorry," he grinned.

He let go, and Niall missed the contact. He knew they were almost done, and he couldn't have been more grateful. As the last of the fans trudged out the door, he stood. He was relieved Zayn didn't give him a problem. He made to walk away, but Zayn grabbed him by the waist. His lips ghosted Niall's ear, whispering a quick, "I love you, yeah?" Niall blushed and nodded, not trusting his voice.
