I hissed awake, groaning as pain shot through my head and neck, "What happened?"
Suddenly a voice perked up, "Ah, look who's awake." I froze in fear spying Katherine walk over to me, "Did you enjoy your nap?"
I frowned, "Like you care."
"Oh, but I do. Because you and I are going to have so much fun together."
Mason then perked up, "Come on Katherine, please don't do this. She's just a child."
Katherine walked over to Mason lifting his chin to lock eyes with him, "Do you want to be free of the curse or not?"
I noticed the chains on my wrists bolting me to the wall and the dark basement we were in. I got to my feet and yanked as hard as I could in desperation, "Don't you think chains are a bit excessive; and what do you mean by curse?" Mason turned to me sadly and I smirked, "Wait, are you saying the werewolf thing wasn't your choice? Then that means you did something to trigger it. Meaning you don't have control in wolf form, do you? Hence the heavy duty chains and uncomfortable surroundings."
Katherine returned my smirk with a devilish one of her own, addressing Mason, "I can see why you were adamant about keeping her alive; she's smarter than most and she'll be a perfect asset." Katherine then walked over to me as I pressed my back against the wall. Katherine boxed me in, "The only question remaining is if you join me willingly, or not."
I pushed away the feeling of panic and steadied my breathing, "All I want is to make Mystic Falls a safe place to raise my son. If you can guarantee Mystic Falls will be supernatural being free once you've seen your plan through, I'll go along with anything you want."
Katherine chuckled, "What's wrong? Salvatore boys not playing nice?"
Tabitha folded her arms as the chains made soft music, "They try, but it seems they only succeed in making things worse and clouding my judgement."
Katherine turned to Mason, "Mason, why don't you go out to get dinner; us girls need to have a little heart to heart."
"I'm not comfortable with that," Mason replied.
Katherine scoffed, "I promise not to take a bite out of her. I just want to have girl talk is all."
I may not trust Katherine, but I need to play along with her in order to make it out alive, so I agreed, "Don't worry Mason. I have information Katherine needs, she won't kill me until she gets all of it."
Mason asked, "Tabitha, are you sure?"
I never looked away from my stare down with Katherine, "I'm sure, all we need is a couple hours and I'm sure we can come to an agreement."
Katherine perked up breaking her stare to look at Mason, "She's right, why don't you go have pack time and then bring back dinner? That ought to be enough time. Right Tabitha?"
I nodded and Mason reluctantly left me, alone, chained to a wall, in the basement with Katherine Pierce. Katherine turned back to me, "Now that we're alone, I couldn't help but note the bit of bitterness in your tone when I mentioned the Salvatore brothers; care to explain?"
I scoffed, but admitted, "I fell in love with Damon after trying to kill him and becoming his partner in crime, but he killed people needlessly and then cheated on me. That happened a couple days ago, so yes, I'm still a little bit bitter and heartbroken."
Katherine chuckled, "I'm not surprised. I can remove those feelings if you want."
"No thanks, the pain will remind me not to put any man before my life and the life of my son, which brings me to our deal. As I'm sure I mentioned before, Bonnie and her Grams were able to open the tomb you were supposedly stuck in, however, they weren't able to seal it back up. All of the vampires stuck down there, are out. Pearl and her daughter came to me with a proposition; I help the vampires integrate back into society and then I get to raise my son in peace and none of the townspeople die as I result of feeding."
Katherine scoffed, "You do realize that is an impossible deal, right?"
"Which is why I asked Anna for your location. I have been able to piece some things together after everything that's happened. I know the only reason a 500 year old vampire would fake her own death instead of killing every single Founder with her own hands means she was running from something. What would a 500 year old vampire have to fear if not something stronger and more powerful than she? I want to know what or who that being is. If it can make you run away without looking back, what could it do to 26 other younger vampires?"
Katherine steadied her gaze, "Impressive for you to have figured all of that out, but I can guarantee everything you want and more. The creature who I ran from cannot be reasoned with, not yet." I took a mental note of her last comment to remind myself this vampire had an agenda of her own. Katherine then brought over a chair for herself and me and sat down, "The beast who pursued me, has a curse placed upon him. My death, as a human, in a ritual along with a couple other sacrifices would have freed him of that curse, however, when I killed myself becoming a vampire, that dream vanished because my line had ended. In retaliation he killed my entire family and has vowed to hunt me till the ends of the earth. I found a way to "kill" myself and escape from him in Mystic Falls."
I raised an eyebrow, "But your line didn't end. Elena is proof of that. The new doppelgänger has been born, which means his curse can once again be lifted and now that the tomb is opened, it's only a matter of time before word of your escape and the new doppelgänger reaches this mad beast who hunted you."
Katherine nodded, "Exactly. I can provide you with the means to keep my descendant safe as well as yours. I have a plan to kill every single one of the tomb vampires so their secrets never reach the ears of the monster who slaughtered my family, intended me to die to free himself from a curse, and chased me for 500 years in retaliation when I did not."
I nodded, "I can agree to those terms." I stood up and held out my hand to Katherine, "Care to shake on our new partnership?"
Katherine stood up and undid my chains before shaking my hand, "To a new partnership between two intelligent women." Katherine then gestured to the stairs, "Care for some lunch?"
I smiled, "Don't mind if I do, but I should get going before my friends get too worried about my absence."
I heard Katherine chuckle behind me, "I agree, perhaps I can get you something for the road."
After grabbing a meal to go, Katherine handed me my phone and belongings and sent me home, but as I passed the Mystic Falls sign, a sense of guilt washed over me. I had just made a deal with the women who manipulated and indirectly killed Stefan and Damon in order to kill 26 people who had been stuck underground in a tomb slowly starving to death.
I shrugged off the feeling, reminding myself of the goal to make Mystic Falls safe for me, my friends, and safe to raise my son.
As I got home and laid down on my bed, my thoughts wandered to Damon. Pain slithered in and curled around my heart and I curled in a ball myself as tears leaked out, but I wasn't crying exactly; my breathing was steady as I drowned in pain. As I closed my eyes, my mind then moved to my son and how I would do anything to make sure he grew up safe. It further cemented my resolve to remove any threat to the town, even if that included Katherine Pierce.
