Poison (Cloud Strife x Reader)

Chapter 4

Y/N's P.O.V
"Get down here Merc," Barret called to Cloud as he jumped off the train dramatically.
"You too newcomer," I sighed and and flipped off the train like if I was some gymnast.
We finally arrived at the Sector 1 Mako Reactor entrance. Everything was going well so far that it.
"Halt! Who goes there!"
"You two are up," Barret ordered us.
I sighed and summoned my spear. A guard began aiming his gun at me, ready to shoot. I quickly threw my spear right at him spearing his chest, when Cloud easily attacked the other guard.
"That wasn't so bad," I said to Cloud as I pulled my spear out of the guard. Cloud just hummed and gave me a nod.
We were ordered to take out more guards along the way as the members of Avalanche sneak their way in. Eventually, we caught up with them when they were trying to open a door. "So what are the SOLDIER's deal's? Are they one of us now?" A girl named Jessie said to Biggs another member of Avalanche. Honestly, this girl has been giving me weird vibes ever since I've meet her. Biggs on the other hand sounds like a nice guy, but he's just been staring at me for a while. Not used to SOLDIER's huh.
"They got balls, these, uhhh...what were their names again?" Jessie questioned.
"Cloud. Cloud Strife and Y/N. Y/N L/N," Biggs replied. "And their not in SOLDEIR anymore. Still, they're professionals- Unlike the rest of us. I'm glad to have them." 
'Glad' he says. I leaned against the rail as Jessie and Biggs try to open the door. I looked over to see another Avalanche member named Wedge, gave Cloud a tumbs up and a side smile. I chuckled a little seeing that Cloud isn't amused.
"This is a onetime gig. When it's done, we're done," Cloud said very clearly. Wedge fronded and looked over to me making sure we weren't serious. I didn't know what to say, so I sighed and placed my head down.
Cloud was looking around the area, as I was eavesdropping on Biggs and Jessie's conversation. Not on purpose. Jessie was just ranting about how she finds Cloud attractive, which made me cringe the entire time. I noticed Biggs looking at me during their conversation and quickly shut the conversation down. 
Barret came over and pushed Me and Cloud out of his way, rude. Wedge came over to use and began to speak, "C'mon nobody'd would do something this crazy just for money. They may not think you guys are true believers, but you know what I think?"
"Not interested," Cloud said to Wedge completely ignoring him. I don't ever recall Cloud acting like this in the passed. Now he's being a big dick to everyone. I put my hand on Wedge's shoulder as a sign of 'I'm sorry,' to him.
Jessie and Biggs got the door to open and they went on ahead.
"Wedge," Barret called for him as he ran towards the others. Barret then stopped and looked at me and Cloud. "Ex-SOLDIER's huh? I don't trust ya'll, but ya'll better be worth the money, merc's. Every last gil."
We didn't say anything and looked up at the Mako Reactor. "I still can't believe we're doing this," I said to Cloud. "It's going to be alright. But right now, we just need to focus on ourselves." Cloud said to me as he walks away. "Right..."
Me and Cloud fought more guards and guard dogs, as we were trying to catch up with the group. Not that they were hard or anything, but I just hated doing all the fighting for these people that I have no clue about who they are. This could be a trap for all I know. Nonetheless, it was 'our job' and I can't do anything about it.
We eventually caught up to the group and made it to the reactor. Wedge was outside the reactor on patrol I'm assuming.  He looked at me, I gave a little wave and a side smile and moved along. Me and Cloud went into the reactor greeted by Barret. Great.
"SOLDIER's may attack on command, but I hear they make good guard dogs too." I grunted ready to yell at him. As I was about too, I felt Cloud grabbed my arm, tight. Basically noting, 'don't do it, it's not worth it.' I looked at the ground and Cloud let go of my arm.
"This your first time in the reactor? Bet you've seen a few reactors." Barret asked.
"No. After all, I was Shinra's property, you know." I said to Barret. Cloud didn't say anything.
"So how do we get to the bridge above mako storage?" Barret asked. Neither me or Cloud responded. I was thinking about we're we should go but I forgot where.
"Ain't holding out on me, are you?"
"N-No. were-"
"Stamp scared to bite the hand that fed him? Or is he a loyal little doggy!?" Barret cut me off. Cloud's head began to hurt, I went over to him and put my hand on his shoulder to make sure he's alright.
"Have it your way, mutts. We can do this with ya'll, or we can do with without ya'll."
Cloud shrugged my hand off his shoulder and responded, "Different reactor, different layout. Depends when it was built. Never seen one like this, but we'll manage." We begin walking towards the nearest door as Biggs was hacking the door system.
"Three...Two...Damn I'm good." Biggs said. I smiled and rolled my eyes. Me and Cloud walked in only greeted by Shinra guards.
"Who's there!? Door!" The guard ordered
"W-Wait!" Barret called as the door slammed shut.
"Jeez.." I mumbled.
"It's over!" the guard called to us. "That's my line." Cloud said to them. Pretty Cocky.
"Wait! That's the girl Shira is looking for! Kill the man, but take the woman!" The guard ordered. "Let me take care of this." I told Cloud.
I summoned my spear and began attacking each guard. Taking them out one by one, Cloud was using his sword as a shield for me. To finish them off, I jumped up and kicked my spear at the last guard, spearing him into the chest. I landed on the ground and grabbed my spear.
"You ok?" I asked Cloud. I turned around seeing him shocked and surprised.
"I-" Cloud was about to respond but the door opened with Jessie, Biggs and Barret at the door.
"We're back!" Jessie said to us. "Then let's move." I said to her.
Jessie went over to the computer and began hacking into the system to get the door opened. "It's a good thing I know someone who can get us the passcodes. Pity no one else at command will talk to us, but what can you do?"
"I guess?" I replied to her.
"And we're good." Jessie responded as she started heading in.
"Be careful in there." Biggs said to her. She just glared at him and moved on. The rest of us followed behind her and headed in also. "You too Biggs." I said to him as he closed the door behind us. 
Cloud's P.O.V:
I noticed Y/N wishing Biggs good luck before he covered the door. For some reason that made me mad. I don't know why, but it did. As soon I was about to go talk to her, I was interrupted by Jessie. "So...you know Tifa, right? It's not really my business, but are you guys close?" I paused for a second and remembered a flashback I had with Tifa when we were kids.
I remember coming out of my house in Nibelheim and minding my own business until Tifa called out my name as she was hangout with her other friends. I just ignored her and moved along. "Are you Ignoring me?" Tifa called out. I looked over to see Tifa have an angry look on her face. With that, the flashback ended.
I looked over to Jessie, "Tifa and I-" but I was cut off by the door opening. Barret came between me and Jessie and pushed me out of his way. Again. Jessie looked at me and went into the elevator, with Y/N following behind me.
"Y/N, push that button over there would ya?" Jessie said to her. She sighed and pushed the button as we headed down. We were in silence for a while until Barret started a saying something, I bet 500 gil it would be annoying.
"This pump's sole purpose is to drain the planet dry. While you sleep, while you eat, while you shit- it's here sucking up mako! Little by little the reactors will drain out all the life. It doesn't rest and it doesn't care!"
Barret went on ranting about what mako is and how it effects the planet. I looked over to Y/N with a confused face but just went along with it. "The hell you think's gonna happen when it's all gone, huh?! Answer me!" Barret said.
"You gonna stand there and pretend you can't hear the planet crying out in pain?! I know you can!" He said pointing at me.
"You really hear that?" I said to him back. "Cloud," Y/N  mumbled to me.
"Damn straight I do!"
"Get help."
Jessie gasped and Y/N looked at me with the 'what the hell did you do,' face. Barret stomped towards me.
"Say that again!"
"Barret please stop. He didn't mean-" Y/N said defending me. "Shut up Mutt!" in a flash, he slapped her backhanded knocking her to the wall of the elevator. I didn't move but I saw how red her cheek was. This made me wanna slice Barret in half even more. Jessie went over to her and helped her up, she asked her if she was ok. She didn't say anything. Just then, the elevator stops.
"I'd worry less about the planet and more about the next five seconds. Save the screaming for later." I growled him. Barret grunted at me. Jessie and Barret left the elevator, when I went over to Y/N with her hand still on her cheek, "I'm sorry, are you ok?"
"I'm fine, lets keep moving." She scoffed as she walked out the elevator. I've never thought that was going to happen, maybe I should have kept my mouth shut. I walked out of the elevator staying close to Y/N making sure Barret doesn't hurt her again.
"Our lives are on the line now." Barret stated. He turned around and came near me and Y/N, pointing his gun at us. I got in front of Y/N blocking her from Barret. "You listening, merc's? One false move.." As Barret shoots his gun past us, to make is warning clear. "And that happens!"
"Well, so much for having Cloud and Y/N doing all the fighting." Jessie commented as she came over to me. Too close. "Just...bear with him for me, would you?" she told me. I looked at Barret making a hero pose cackling. I sighed.
"Should have asked for more money."
(A/N: woohoo! Chapter 4 is done! I honestly didn't know what to do with Y/N and Cloud's reactions during this chapter.  I was just writing about what came to mind.
I thought about taking out the part where Barret slapped Y/N, but I kinda wanted to show how much disrespect he has for Y/N and Cloud like he did in the games. But mainly I didn't know how Cloud would respond.
Personally I believe that Cloud is one of those people who would look cool and man up in public but will only show his true self around the people he cares about when he's alone with them. That's why he didn't move when Y/N got hurt. I guess.
But like I've said I honestly didn't know how that would play out, I can always go back and change it if needed. Anyways, Hope you guys are doing well! Stay Mosey!)
