These opening notes are my way of explaining why I made this story; it has nothing to do with its contents. If you're not interested in hearing my intentions in writing this story, it's totally fine to just skip over this part.
Note: This story will not include any OC Main Character or insert the reader as a character. It is a backstory focusing on Eto, written in Third Person Point of View. The unnamed members of the group within the 24th Ward will be expanded on, however.
Note: I'm going to do my best to stick to the details given about Eto's past in the Tokyo Ghoul manga, but I will likely have some things wrong, out of order, or different than how they might have been shown. Some changes are also purposeful to make the flow of the story work a little better. At the end of the day, even if I'm trying to make a faithful story, this is still my interpretation of these events, and I have to take some liberties throughout.
Intention:
I'm a writer. It's been my hobby for many years. Short Stories, Novellas, Flash Fiction, etc. but with writing, there's always been something that really captured me. Writing backstories. Every person in the world has a personality, and while it's easy to say and understand what a character is like, it's not always clear why they are the way they are. So, here's my way of both doing something I really enjoy and paying homage to one of my favorite fictional characters.
With this story, I wanted to really try and capture Eto as a character, display her growth, explain her personality and motives. I wanted to make a faithful backstory, one that adds to her character. I've read a plethora of stories with Eto Yoshimura as the main character. I couldn't help but feel there was just something missing in them, almost like part of her character was just not there, and on the other end of that spectrum, there are the rare few that absolutely nails her character, and it's those stories that I hope to emulate. If you think I did a good job at accomplishing this goal, please leave a comment letting me know; and on the other side, if you think there's something I did wrong or missed, please let me know.
