"Hey, I'll be back before you know it, worry about yourself for once!"
Those words were still ringing inside of Kazuha's head, even after she had left. To him, his captain was almost like a mother figure. Though it was only for a few weeks, he couldn't help but reevaluate his entire life. What was he to do? He had nobody else. The Crux crew was gone, Captain Beidou was gone, was he just expected to wait for 3 weeks until they returned?
Two hours after the crew departed, Kazuha still patiently sat at the port. Even through all of the negative thoughts, he felt calm. He knew Captain Beidou could make it back safely. He just wished she had let him come along.
"This expedition is far more dangerous than anything you've ever encountered. Stay in Liyue for a while, and let loose for once!"
Captain Beidou's attempt to throw him into the real world was already failing. He refused to move from his spot until she returned. Of course, he had to move to get food, but he was willing to starve, even for a little while.
Whilst he was in the process of waiting, he heard some commotion going on around the fish stalls behind him. It was normal to hear arguments around the port, but this time it was especially loud.
The fish seller slammed his hands on the stall, "I don't owe the Fatui anything! If anything, it's all of the money you people stole from me!" He seemed agitated, and Kazuha would rather not have got involved.
The man confronting him wore traditional Inazuman clothing, which caught Kazuha's eye. He didn't seem too pleased with the fish seller, in fact, he seemed quite annoyed.
"Someone from Inazuma..? All the way over here?" he thought. The Inazuma borders were closed to everyone, few people were let outside. How did this guy manage to get out?
The Inazuman man snapped back, "If you can't pay it, you'll need to be taken into custody. Simple as that. The Fatui aren't to be messed with." He could tell he was really holding back.
Now invested into the story, Kazuha quietly inched closer to the scene, hoping to get a better look. It seemed the short Inazuman man with dark blue hair was part of the Fatui. But he looked too overdressed to be just any Fatui diplomat.
Eventually, the fish seller gave in, giving him a bag of mora. Even so, the Fatui man still looked displeased with his attitude towards him, it was as if he was expecting him to bow down to him or something.
The blue haired man quickly turned around to leave when he spotted Kazuha, who was intensely staring at him.
As Kazuha laid eyes on his face, he felt an ache in his chest, one he'd never felt before. Ever since leaving Inazuma, Kazuha lacked the ability to feel anything in his heart. Almost like he had no way of feeling such emotions. But now, looking at this man, he felt something.
He seemed oddly familiar. Like he had met him before. He swore they've met before, but he couldn't recall how or when. For some reason, he felt strangely connected to him.
To his dismay, the Inazuman wasn't weirded out at this other man staring at him. In fact, he looked as infatuated as Kazuha was. Was he feeling the same thing too? Was he also lacking something deep within him? Maybe that was why they felt so connected.
Suddenly, a Fatui soldier appeared, "Lord Scaramouche!"
"Scaramouche.." Kazuha thought to himself. So his name was Scaramouche. He eventually put the pieces together, coming to the conclusion that the Inazuman man was indeed a Fatui Harbinger.
Even so, there was no denying that Kazuha had felt something. He might not have known what it was, but he was determined to find out. A part of him hoped that this Scaramouche guy had felt the same way. Perhaps it was fate? It's as if, for some unknown reason, the universe wanted them to meet.
♢♢♢
Scaramouche was tasked with the tedious job of collecting long-overdue debts that people around Liyue owed the Fatui. The Fatui thought it'd be best to send out one of their most feared Harbingers, Scaramouche. He really had a way with words, as well as facial expressions. They hoped his terrifying aura would scare them into giving up the money, and they were indeed right, their plan worked very well.
After taking care of his last client of the day, he noticed a guy around his age, snooping around by the port.
Upon first laying his eyes on him, he felt a strong feeling that he'd met him before. From where, he didn't know, but it had to be from somewhere because Scaramouche knew he was never wrong.
The man also wore Inazuman style clothing, the red streak in his hair greatly outshined the rest of his pale white hair.
Not only did he seem similar to Scaramouche in many ways, they both seemed infatuated with each other. And not in a weird way, but a familiar way.
Scaramouche couldn't place his finger on it. All his life he'd never had an experience quite like this one. He never had time to think about others, so he didn't pay much attention to them either. It was unlike him to be so focused on one person at once.
It was like the archons wanted them to cross paths.
Of course, Scaramouche didn't believe in fate or destiny. He barely even believed in the stars, why would he follow his gut and interact with someone he's never met before? At least, he thought he'd never met him..
To his surprise, the white haired guy was walking towards him. Scaramouche internally panicked, which wasn't like him at all. Why was he so nervous? Was it because he usually paid no mind to other people, and now he was forced to?
He stopped right in front of him. While Scaramouche wanted to blow the man off and walk away, for some reason, he didn't.
"Have we met before?" The man asked.
