Dark....

I don't like the dark.......

Someone... turn back on the lights.......

A scream filled my ears, the sound filled with fear and pain.

Stop....

I wanted to tell whoever was screaming to be quiet, to just let me sleep.

It only took another moment for my mind to connect back with my body when I realized that I was the one screaming. Pain shot up from my left leg across my body, a new stinging feeling making my eyes open in shock. My screams ripped from my chest once more, but my sore throat and tired body only let out a weak gasp. It felt like ants were picking at my body, slowly making their way up to my head.

A cold feeling settled in as my mind faded from reality once more.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

¨colley! Are you ready to go? Professor said we could go back to 2022 and check out The Great Storm!¨ A strawberry-blonde girl turned the corner, facing me as I put on the last of my travel gear. My ash-colored short hair contrasted with my pale, Asian skin. As I stared into the mirror, looking at all my equipment, I noticed the small things.

The way my forest green eyes were the same color as my sweater. The small scars that littered my face and arms, all from different times and adventures. How my light brown vest fits on top of my green sweater and slim figure. My arms, which were covered in bandages from the last adventure to the wild west. Who would have known Texans were not as kind back then as they were now.

My copper watch had gears on the inside, its look being similar to one made in steampunk times. I had an affinity for asking to go back to that time, usually bringing back trinkets and designs. 2056 was always fun to explore, the world bright with new inventions and the earth starting to grow back to its original glory.

The familiar tune of a sea shanty dragged me out of my thoughts, my laugh filling the room as I sang along with the song Ava had started.

¨ There once was a ship that put to sea, the name of the ship was the Billy of Tea¨

¨The winds blew up, her bow dipped down¨

¨Oh blow, my bully boys, blow! Huh!¨

Our voices synchronized, our laughter cutting in occasionally as we walked down the long halls of the university dorms.

It was a sea shanty an old pirate taught us as we adventured in the 1800s, the song now being what our group always sang when we were about to go on our next project.

¨ oi! You lot better not be singing the wellerman without me!¨ Jack walked through his dorm door, his Australian accent causing us to laugh more. He joined in, starting to sing along as the rest of the group joined us.

We all finished up the song as we reached the door to our professor, Mr.Lingt.

We smiled, opening the door to his office.

Each wall was covered in books, their gold words shining in the light from the huge window behind his desk. The room was like a huge library, and probably held more information than all the libraries left on new earth.

¨ I see you all have found an affinity for that old song. Nice to see a group getting along¨ His old, joyful voice filled the room as he climbed down from a ladder, book in hand.

He was the overseer for all the time traveler groups, and while most groups hated each other, we all grew up together and had always been close.

I smiled, grabbing the book from his outstretched hand, putting it into my backpack.

¨ today I will give you your last assignment before you can become true time travelers, the first of many! Set your watches for 2022, September 5th. Today, you will go to The Great Storm that caused our world to be what it is today. You will find Mrs.Blaire and bring her back to our time.¨ we all nodded, our faces now serious. While we had always gotten missions, they have never been to find and bring someone back with us. Guess there's a first for everything.

As we stepped into the travel room, our watches all lit up.

¨ ok ava! Time to create your portal!¨ Yun said, smiling from the excitement of a new mission. Ava was the leader of our group, and one of the only ones authorized to start a time portal. We all could as well, but only in an emergency.

Her familiar green and purple portal lit up the room, her clock activated.

¨ ok! Everyone one at a time! Sarah first!¨ Her yell was pale in comparison to the sound of a storm on the other side of the portal.

My feet pushed against the wind, finally stepping into the portal.
