I rushed to grab my bag, slinging it onto my shoulders and sprinting slightly to catch up with Alice. I ran around the couch, facing Alice as she shoved some food into her bag.

¨let me help.¨ I grabbed some food and shoved it into my bag as well, grabbing only the food that would last a while.

¨ the shelter is over there. You get in while I finish grabbing everything!¨ her voice was drowned out as the winds picked up outside, the frail wood of the building barely hiding the storm's presence.

As I threw open the door to the shelter, I could see another metal one down the long concrete staircase. My footsteps echoed as I quickly went down, the storm picking up speed and intensity.

I used all my remaining strength, hands latching onto the cold metal of the door and slowly opening it, inch by inch. My back ached with the struggle, but eventually the vault-like door opened enough for me to fit through.

Before I could go into the shelter, though, I heard a loud crash upstairs, a yell followed by it afterwards. My heart thumped, my mind questioning if I really want to go up there and risk getting caught in the storm.

My feet moved before I could even let rational thought stop them.

I sprinted up the stairs once more, water droplets flying into my face the higher up I got.

As I got to the open door, I peaked around only to see Alice stuck between fallen debris, the storm almost holding her down. I ran over to her, my breath heavy and my leg screaming at me to stop using it so much.

I used what little energy I had to lift up the wood off her back slightly, giving Alice enough room to scoot her way out.

My breaths came heavy and quick, my heart thumping and muscles tense. My body shook with adrenaline, all my senses alert.

Suddenly, as the storm got harder and harder, my watch spun and clicked, the all too familiar sound making my face light up.

" come on! It's not safe!" Alice yelled out at me, standing near the staircase.

" I can't! My portal is about to open! I'll see you soon, ok?" I smiled back at her, seeing the worried expression on her face.

It's ok, you just have to find her once you get back to your time.

I comforted myself, an ache in my gut. I had actually enjoyed being around Alice.

Determination settled on my features, my clock spinning faster and faster as I saw the hint of a portal in front of me. My backpack slammed against my back from the wind, but I stood still, waiting for the portal.

As I saw it, I felt some weight leave my backpack.

Looking down, I realized the book professor gave me was gone.

It's fine, just leave it.

I limped into the portal, the familiar warmth of travel encasing me as I disappeared from existence.
