Juneteenth

Sweat dripping in the rhythm of palpitation, not breathing in full air,
Red lights got us running scared...
A minor ticket turning into death sentences,
The color of our skin intimidating those fearing our power that lies within...
Wanting to cease racism, the power of our independence...
Us taking over as world leaders,
Warriors, builders and financial freedom...
Still they try, sirens blinding us just for driving by
Locking us behind bars with wrongful sentencing
Fillers of graves, trying to take us back 2 centuries,
1865 gave us new meaning...
Free to live, making our ancestors happy,
We won't be taken back, this time we're fighting...an ongoing war for equality...
My people now having the knowledge & power
Those red lights can never enslave us back in shackles... By Shana A. ©️
