Chapter 17: Day 8: War:
I was sore. I hadn't slept. I was too nervous. I couldn't stop shaking.
This was Day 8.
I sat, hunched against a cold metal wall with a gun in my hand, finger on the trigger with my thoughts off in another place. I allowed myself to think about my dad and my grandmother. I wondered what they were doing, what they thought of me, how they were feeling, what they would do without me -had they made that plan yet? Did they see me as a monster? Or did they see me as weak because I hadn't hurt anyone yet -but I knew that day would come. I just didn't know what would happen to me when it finally did -would I lose myself completely? Or worse; would I feel nothing?
I let out a shaky breath and let myself think about Clint. I hadn't expected to miss him this much. I just met the guy and I missed him as if he were my best friend whom I'd known for years.
"Anything?" Tony asked and I jumped a foot in the air, letting a shot go off, the bullet burying itself in the wall.
"Shit!" Tony and I both exclaimed, grabbing out stuff and running.
We couldn't take any chances, we were both probably the weakest players in the Games at the moment. We had to move, that shot could have alerted anyone to our location -I was most scared of Thor or Bruce finding us. Steve or Johnny had been in an alliance with me, and Johnny had sworn to protect me. Thor had his hammer that could end me in a matter of seconds, that was the same with the Hulk's fist.
"Shit, Tony, I'm so sorry. Where the hell do we go?" I asked, panicked.
"Okay, first." Tony stopped and grabbed my shoulders. "Calm the hell down. Second, before I joined forces with Bruce, I was hiding out on Research Level 2. I had a pretty good set up. My stuff might be still there."
I nodded and gulped down my fear. "Okay, okay. Research Level 2. Let's go there."
Once we got there, we found that Tony's previous hide out had been completely trashed. Someone had ran-sacked the place, taking everything he'd stashed here. I was looking forward to going through new supplies and weapons, now it was all gone and we were left with what we had.
"Are you sure it's safe to stay here?" I asked, placing my backpack on the ground and touching the gun on my hip subconsciously, making sure it was still there -that I still had protection.
"Well, odds are that whoever found this place was a Civilian Tribute, and if it wasn't, I doubt they'd return to a place that they left in this state." Tony replied, setting up, hiding guns in opportune places in case of a surprise attack, even pulling out food supplies and rationing them.
Behind me, I heard the floor wain under weight and I snapped my head around.
"Tony," I lowered my voice. "Did you hear that?"
"Hear what?" He asked and I shushed him, holding a finger in the air to keep him silent.
The floor gave a wain again and Tony stood up, walking towards the noise. He could handle himself, he had his suit on still and while he was disconnected from JARVIS, the suit still worked.
I heard a scuffle and grabbed my gun, switching it off safety before Tony rounded the corner. He was holding Johnny up by the scruff of his neck while the Human Torch protested, trying to 'flame on' but Tony kept shaking him and snuffing out the flames before he could get them to hot.
"Johnny!" I exclaimed, "What the hell?"
"I heard the shot and followed you guys." He admitted, hanging his head. "I tried to team up with Thor and Bruce, but they tried to -uh...they weren't interested."
Tony and I locked eyes, we knew what that meant: Thor and Bruce had tried to kill Johnny. I tried not to bring my hand to my mouth and cover up my gasp -but ultimately failed.
"If you guys are interested..." Johnny trailed off shrugging.
"Yes." I replied as Tony replied;
"No."
"Team meeting!" Tony called and I rolled my eyes. He put Johnny down and told him to stay put while we discussed 'things.'
I sighed and leant up against the nearest wall, Tony standing in front of me.
"I don't think this is such a good idea, Stella." He said. "He could be spying for Thor and Bruce."
"I trust him." I told Tony, "He admitted to the entire world that he and I were in an alliance, I don't think he'd go against that."
"This is the fucking Marvel Games, Estelle!" Tony exclaimed, "You can't trust anyone!"
"Look, all I know is that we could use numbers. There's six of us left, Thor and Bruce are two, Johnny, you and me are three and I think Steve is on his own. If we have the majority, we might be able to take Thor and the Hulk out. We might even be able to get Steve on our side if we can find him." I managed to convince Tony with the numbers, and he reluctantly let Johnny in on our alliance.
"Tomorrow morning, I think we should go look for Steve." I told the two men as they tried to get comfortable enough to sleep.
"That's not a good idea." Johnny replied.
"Why?" Tony spoke up. "What do you know?"
Johnny was hesitant before replying, "Before I approached Thor and Bruce, I listened in on a few... conversations."
"What conversations?" I asked.
"They were more like battle plans." Johnny corrected himself. "They're planning to take out Estelle first, then you, Tony. After that, I'm assuming me and then Steve so Bruce and Thor can battle it out for Victor."
The weight of Johnny's words felt heavy on my shoulders. I always knew I'd die somewhere in this Game, but I hadn't expected for it to be planned out like this. Like a road to someone's victory. I would have preferred for my death to be honourable, someone sneaking up on me and giving me a fair fight until the end.
Now it just felt...like an execution.
"They're declaring war." Tony said quietly.
"Pretty much." Johnny agreed.
"Then we fight." I spoke up and the two of them looked at me like I was crazy. "I don't know about you, but my instincts want me to stay alive. What are your instincts telling you?"
Tony looked at Johnny, they two of them had a silent conversation before Tony broke the gaze and look at me with fire in his eyes.
"It's time to go to war."

Author's Note: Hello! So, this was another short one, but the next chapter is a challenge one so it'll be quite long! Do any of you have any idea on what the next challenge will be?
Sad news though, in the next chapter, someone dies. Only question: WHO? Thor, Bruce, Tony, Steve, Estelle or Johnny? Who will be next to kick the bucket?
Anyway! what did you guys think? Johnny joined the Tony/Stella alliance! They have the majority, so they could do some real damage. ^.^
And, Bruce and Thor vs. Johnny, Stella and Tony! Good going Steve, you picked a good time not to be in an alliance, if things go bad, you could actually be the last one standing!
I'm not sure when the next upload will be -it could be before I go away, or after. In any case, the next chapter is well....excitingly depressing xD
Until then, comment, vote, like!
