"Hey." Emily greeted her friends as she got off the bus. Peyton, Katie and Kaylea were all standing in a group. Angel made her way over from the breakfast doors. Angel has been staying over at her grandparents house because child services have been investigating. It started when her brother fell and hit it head on the coffee table. The ER thought her dad was abusing them so Angel had to leave the house. Her grandparents house is less than a mile from the school so she walks. When she's admitted back to her house she'll start taking the bus with Emily again. Peyton just gets a ride on the morning and after practice so she doesn't take the bus anymore."Ready for tonight?" Cheyenne asked.
"Totally! We're gonna cream Vista Peak." Emily said excitedly for the game.
"They can't be so good." Peyton chimed in. Ring Ring.

After the bell rang signaling the end of sixth period, Emily stormed out and ignored the fist pump Mr. Swiney gives everyone as they walk out the door. As Emily ran down the stairs, everyone gave her the usual "good luck tonight" and a few "kick their ass". Emily made her way to the back of the school to where the gym is. There was chattering and everyone was mixed with nervousness and excitement. This was the first game since they got off of break and they were still rusty. The managers, Quincey and Ahmad, opened the doors to let them in to get changed into their uniforms. Quincey smiled at Emily as she walked in. The coaches, Mr. Muller and Mr. Eismont, were setting up the game tent as they loaded into the locker room. Emily sat in front of her locker and spin the dial. Right 28 left 14 right 24. Click! She was still surprised that she memorized it due to all the combinations she has to keep locked in her head. Emily quickly got dressed and took her backpack to set on the bleachers. Since they were playing an away game, Emily grabbed a volleyball and started practicing her over hand serves that struggled to make it over the net. When she saw Peyton, Jaylen and Katie come out of the locker room, Emily took them to the net where they volleyed the ball over the net. It didn't last long before Peyton and Katie wanted to practice their serves and departed for the serving line."Quincey!" Emily yelled.
"Sup?" he responded walking over to the net.
"Wanna play?" Emily asked.
"Sure." Emily set the ball over the net and he bumped it over. Emily approached for a spike and hit it with all her might. Quincey blocked it and Emily set it. This went on for a few minutes until Quincey got distracted and left her in the middle of the net with balls that people were serving coming straight at her. They shouldn't of came for her at all. If they were good serves then they would make it over the net and land exactly by the 10 foot line. Emily made her way over to the serving line with everyone else. She stuck her left foot out, three the ball up, made sure it landed by the curve of her shoe, threw it up again, transferred her weight and hit it. With no avail, the ball hit the net.
"THE BUS IS HERE!!!!!" the door keeper yelled. All the eighth grade players ran and grabbed their bags and b-lined for the bus. Quincey sat in the front while Emily sat in the middle. It was exactly 23 minutes until they got off the bus to enter the schools gym. They found their reserved seats on the bleachers. C team was first to warm up. Emily's mom text:
Hey I can't remember what street we turn on so if I can't find it then we'll have to go home. If that happens then take the bus back to your school and I'll pick you up there.
Ok do what you need.....
Never mind I found it.
Ok.Suddenly Emily's phone was gone. She looked up to discover Quincey running to the other side with her phone. Emily chased after him and tackled him. She pried the device from his hands despite his strong grip. Emily spotted her mom and two sisters walk in. She went over to meet them. Emily's mom handed her, her volleyball water bottle she got for Christmas.
C team was done playing in no time and B team was on the court.
"I don't know why you bitches crying it was your own damn fault. You called mine yet you didn't move your feet." Nashiya, one of the meanest girls in the eighth grade, spoke to the C team. Emily turned around to see Katie crying.
"It's ok. This is the second game you guys lost. A team has lost four." Emily tried. Katie just stared at her with no emotion.
The second round of the B team game was 18-24. One more point and we win so we go to the third round. Caitlyn served the ball and they missed it. The whistle blows as they huddle to organize the next play. Emily turned to her team.
" Ready? Who's got what it takes to be lady knights what it takes to be lady knights what it takes to be lady knight!" Emily sang as people joined in.
"WHEN I SAY GO YOU SAY MRACHEK! GO..."
"MRACHEK."
"GO."
"MRACHEK." the whole crowd chanted.
"M-R-A-C-H-E-K knights M-R-A-C-H-E-K knights." everyone was up on their feet. The B team finished their meet and put their hands in the middle.
"1, 2, 3 LADY KNIGHTS YOU KNOOOWWWW!" The crowd went wild. Vista Peak served first. Emily stopped paying attention.
10 minutes later the score was 8-14. One point and they win. Mrachek served the ball. The back middle girl from Vista Peak bumped it over and the middle front girl from Mrachek spiked it. Vista peak blocked the spike and it hit the ground on Mracheks side. They win.
"C'mon ladies we got to beat them!" Sami stood up and said. The A team made their way to the court and started doing laps. We warmed up with out wave drills, lines, serving and partnering.
"Ok ladies this is the line up. Diana in the back left, Angela you're gonna be in the middle up there, Emily is in the front left, Cheyenne is gonna be front middle, Randy is gonna be in serve position and Alanna you're gonna be setter." Mr. Muller explained with his German accent.
"We got this ladies." Sami cheered. Lara and Makayla came back from flipping the coin.
"We're receiving." Lara announced.
"The B and C team showed how difficulty by are but you have to push it." Mr. Muller spoke. The girls put their hands in.
"1, 2, 3 LADY KNIGHTS YOU KNOOOWWWW!" They cheered. Diana, Angela, Emily, Cheyenne, Randy and Alanna stood at the beginning line waiting for the ref to blow their whistle. Squeak! The girls took their positions. The line judge on Vista Peaks side rolled the ball over to the tall blonde serving. She bounced the ball a few times waiting for the whistle to blow. Squeak! She backed up, threw the ball way out in front of her, jumped and smacked the ball. Over hand serves are the hardest to return but the easiest to be hit out of bounds. Randy bumped the ball up, Alanna set it up and Cheyenne spiked it. The perfect play. It was Alanna's turn to serve. Everyone rotated so that Emily was now in spiking position. Squeak! Alanna served the ball under hand. They returned it with a spike but Emily couldn't block it. Squeeeeaaaakkkk. The ref called it Mracheks ball. You aren't allowed to spike the serves.
