"It's so wonderful to finally meet you, Matt." June's mom says. Her eyes are teary from happiness after she received Matt's presents.
"You too, Elaine. It was about time. I'm looking forward to hearing all about your world trip." Matt laughs heartily.
"It was so wonderful. I definitely recommend it. It was really soul cleansing." Elaine beams with happiness as she remembers.
"Good to see you too, mom." June says sarcastic but softens it with a laugh. "I'm here too, you know."
"Oh, as if I'd ever forget my sweetheart." Elaine says and hugs her daughter affectionately. "I've missed you so much my baby girl."
"I missed you too mom." June affectionately returns the hug.
"But you missed me more, I'm sure." June's dad says as he enters the hall
"Daaad!" June yells and frees herself from her mums embrace so she can throw herself into her father's open arms. With his daughter in a firm embrace he addresses Matt "Hi Matt. Very nice to finally meet you."
"You too Allan. I brought you and Elaine a gift but I'm not sure she wants to share it." Matt laughs heartily and Elaine chirps in "Of course I will." Then she looks at her husband and says "You can have one sip my love."
They all burst out laughing and Allan sees the wine in his wife's hands. "That is a really lovely present."
"Maybe I should bring two bottles next time, so you guys don't fight over it." Matt says playfully and June adds "No please don't. They'll drink it all at once and guess who'll have to answer their drunken phone calls."
"That sounds like fun. Now I'll definitely bring two bottles the next time."
Elaine laughs heartily. "So what I hear you say sweetheart is that you definitely don't want to have any dessert today. You don't like it anyway, so you'll be okay with it."
June narrow her eyes at her mom and says "The desert is cheesecake with glazed peaches, isn't it?"
"It sure is honey." Elaine laughs again and June's face turns white. "That's not funny, mom. You know the rules. No making fun with deserts."
"Sorry honey. We've been gone for so long." Elaine smiles softly, and June's face slowly turns back to normal.
"Never make a joke about deserts around this one." Alan says to Matt who nods seriously but laughs. "Yeah, I learned that the hard way."
"Please, do tell. That is a story I'd love to hear." Elaine says and adds "But please first let's go sit down on the couch. It's much more comfortable than standing here."
"You're not telling that story, Matt!" June blurts loudly and looks terrified.
"Oh, don't worry darling. I'm sure he won't tell us the private parts." Allan laughs heartily.
"Dad! That's NOT why!" June says quickly.
"She's just too embarrassed about it. I'll tell you when she goes to the bathroom."
"Which will be soon." Elaine says and jumps out of her seat on the couch to make June a rather large drink.
June laughs so much that tears roll down her cheeks. "Seriously mom? I see you're still trying to turn me into a part-time alcoholic."
"Only on Saturdays." Elaine replies and winks at Matt who laughs. "Then you've recovered by the time you have to go back to work. Oh, how's work by the way?"
"Oh, you know, it's bu-" June starts to reply but gets cut short by her dad. "Elaine honey, she can't drink that drink and answer questions at the same time. Don't ask her anything until after she's done to the bathroom."
Matt laughs so hard he bends over on the couch.
"Seriously? You two are the worst." June says in mock anger but her love for her parents is written all over her face. Matt who's recovered from his laughing fit, leans in, and strokes her hand. "No baby. They are seriously the best. No wonder you're so amazing."
"Well, same goes for you and your parents."
"Yeah, I don't know about that. I'm pretty sure my parents love you waaay more than they love me." Matt says.
"That not true Matt." June laughs and turns to her mom. "Mom, we should invited Matt parents to come here at some point or go visit them, if you guys want to. But I don't think you guys need to travel anymore right now."
"They have actually asked me to ask you guys if you would want them to come visit because they'd love to meet you." Matt says with a big smile.
"They are more than welcome." Elaine says fond and Allan adds "We would love to meet the parents of such a wonderful guy. We're free anytime for the next month."
"Well Matt goes home to San Francisco in 4 days so do you think there's a chance they can come here and then you guys can go home together?" June asks hopefully but Matt's answer is interrupted by a knock on the door.
"I'll get it." Elaine says with a big smile and a wink.
"Oh, hi Elaine. It's so wonderful to meet you. I've heard so many wonderful things about you from my darling son." June jumps from her seat and almost spills her drink all over the place before she puts it down on the table by the couch. Then she almost runs into the hall.
"Someone's happy." June hears her dad say with pride in his voice.
"They get along way too perfectly." Matt answers and the two men laughs loudly.
"Hi sweetheart." Sandra says to June and pulls her into a warm embrace. "I see you get your beautiful looks from your mother."
"Hi." June squeals and over Sandra's shoulder she says "Hi Andrew. It's great to see you both again. I'm so glad you guys are here to meet my wonderful parents."
"Okay, I forgive you. You can have an entire cheesecake by youself, my love." Elaine says affectionately to her daughter who've let go of Sandra.
"Come on in and meet my husband." Elaine gestures towards the living room and they all head inside.
"Surprise." Allan says to his daughter before greeting Sandra and Andrew. "We arranged it all with Matt. I didn't expect his timing on bringing up a visit from his parents to be so perfect though."
"Oh, that was because I texted them to wait one more minute before knocking, when mom texted me that they were here." Matt laughs and June says "Wauw. I didn't even see you using your phone."
"That's because you were distracted by the story you don't want me to tell, baby." He laughs.
"Don't mention it again." June hisses between gritted teeth.
"Oh, we didn't forget about at all, sweetheart. Actually Matt just told it to me when you were out in the hall to greet our guests." Allan laughs heartily.
June sends Matt an almost deathly glare but he's completely unaffected by it and says in a playful tone "Sure I'll sleep on the couch tonight. It's you who can't sleep alone."
June sighs loudly "Damn it" and everyone besides her laughs.
"Can I please help you with setting the table or something, Elaine?" Sandra asks and adds "Then I can tell you some great stories about your wonderful daughter."
Elaine nods happily. "Of course you can. I have some stories of my own I'd like to share about her."
"No mom!" June almost yells. "Don't tell Elaine embarrassing stories. It's bad enough you told them all to Matt. My boyfriend."
"Oh, I love when she calls him her boyfriend." Sandra says and Elaine nods eagerly in agreement and says "These two are just perfect for each other."
"I'm gonna have to agree with that." Matt says and pulls June onto his lap."
