Gulf glanced to Mew in horror, eyes wild, breathing harsh, and stomach in knots before focusing back on the doctor, "a-are you sure? There is four?"
She moved the wand her eyes squinting, and her attention strained on the machine, "yeah....see right there it looks like the fourth one is hiding, but definitely there. This is just amazing the other three heartbeats are very strong and firm."
Gulf's stomach dropped, "what do you mean? If the three are strong then the fourth one isn't? What's wrong with my baby?"
The doctor looked at him with care, "nothing is wrong as of yet, but I'll clean you up and we'll go to my office to have a conversation."
"Why do need to have a conversation? What's wrong?" Gulf's nerves were getting the better of him and worry was eating him up. He gripped Mew's hand for reassurance but found his mate in a rather useless state.
Four. Wow, I'm going to be a papa to four of them! I wonder if they're all girls. No... no I can't handle that. I'll end up murdering every male in the world. Boys then? Oh, man how am I going to hug all of them at once?
The doctor cleaned him up after taking the photographs and Mew helped him off the clinical bed before they were led to a homey office filled with medical books, posters, and a lot of flowerpots.
She gestured towards the two chairs, "please sit and make yourselves comfortable, did you want any water or anything?"
"Um, no thanks" he couldn't eat or drink he was so anxious. Why did she have to pull them to an office? What was wrong?
"I brought you in here just to have a small discussion about your situation."
"Situation?" the fear in his voice was evident and the doctor smiled at him warmly.
"Nothing to fear omega just a few precautions. We haven't seen a case of multiple births in an omega in generations. In fact, I personally, have never seen one" she said calmly as she stared at Gulf in fascination. "This stopped after many of the alphas lost their abilities to shift and pregnancies became more human after mating with so many betas."
Gulf listened in rapt attention.
"Fortunately, you're not showing signs of a full litter pregnancy, those only last for three months compared to six, so if that were the case you'd be bursting at the seams by now", she chuckled. "Now as far as precautions go, I'm going to give you the warnings and knowledge I have, like I said I've never helped an omega with this before and if you'd like to see a shifter specialist, I'd be more than happy to refer you."
"Shifter specialist?"
She nodded, "they cost more, but they are well versed and take extra specialty classes in delivering litter pregnancies. They've been rather bored these last few decades, but they do have the training."
Gulf shrunk at the idea of meeting yet another doctor and paying more money. He was comfortable with this one. But of course, Mew piped in.
"We'll take your referral and see a specialist, but if we're uncomfortable can we come back? My mate seems to be skittish about this" Mew said confidently, and Gulf looked to him in amazement, he was so self-assured and confident.
"Of course, I would love to be your primary! Now as for precautions there are few. First off, we'll get the negativity out of the way" she looked to Gulf, "you have a higher chance of miscarriage or losing one or more than a normal beta would."
Gulf sucked in a breath and his hand automatically went to his stomach. He had no idea how he was going to take care of them, but they were still his. He couldn't lose any.
