The air in the basement studio was dense and warm. Larry felt the sweat dripping off his body and felt his muscles tense up and contract. His body moved at the same moment the beat dropped to a song he's never heard before. He always enjoyed moving to the sounds of an unfamiliar melody, loosing control and letting the music take him anywhere and everywhere, because he never knew what he was going to come up with and finding out just how far he could go was half the fun of dancing.
He was alone in his shared apartment with his twin brother which was the perfect opportunity for him to come up with some new dance steps. Larry always danced with Laurent and sometimes he was a bit jealous of the way his brother could move, but that jealousy is what drove him to dance harder and to push his body to its limits.
Larry had the utmost respect for his twin as both a dancer and as a man, but there was always something about him that made Larry question his motives for always sticking so close to him. He knew that they shared a connection beyond anything a normal person could comprehend. They could read eachothers body language and even thoughts for christ sake, but even beyond that, Larry felt obligated to stay with his brother, even if they faught... Which they did quite often.
He thought that maybe it was because they had shared so much and had been together all their life, that it was natural to feel this type of affection towards Laurent, but he also realized that they were just two of many twins in the world and that others of their disposition, didn't act like that. So it made him think.. "why do I feel empty when he's not here?"
.........Larry put the thought out of his mind for now and continued to hone his new elbow drop and spin, which was something he'd done on the fly and totally by accident after almost loosing his balance, but once he realised that it looked cool, he decided to perfect it and incorporate it into his musicality.
After about three hours of performing this move to different songs, each with different tempo's, he felt that he could do it naturally and walked over to the speaker system that was now blaring his favourite song. Many people believed that he and his brother were born knowing every move there is, but the truth was that they were constantly improving themselves. Every year, every day and every second they were doing something to perfect their reflexes, because what's the point of understanding music if you're body is too slow to react to it.
Larry and Laurent had been dancing together for so long that they could easily replicate the others' movements, it was like breathing to them and became a form of communication that only they could understand. The only exception was coming up with something new on the spot to surprise the other with, and they figured that if they each took the time to dance alone on their off days, then they could create something the other hasn't seen yet and that would keep them both excited for dance and they would never get bored.
.......
Larry grabbed his phone and turned off the music app right before grabbing a bottle of water from the mini fridge standing next to the speaker system. He noticed two notifications that were left unanswered and decided to take a peek while sipping on his water. He swiped through his phone and simultaneously placed the water on a table and grabbed a small towel instead, to wipe his glistening forehead and arms. The first text read: ("Hey baby, when are you going to come back to Brazil? I've been missing you like craze")
It was from a girl named Chloe that Larry could barely remember, until he opened the attached picture and immediately recognised the star tattoo placed very close to her inner thigh and ended up smiling to himself, as he recalled a very craze night at a club in Brazil that he danced at with his brother.
He swiped the image away and deleted both the text thread and her number, not bothering to respond.
The second text read: ("Why do I have to get lilo a new backpack for school?, she called me. Are you not taking care of her shit Larry?")
Larry's face immediately went into a scowl, his brows furrowed and he looked just about ready to spit in someone's face when he responded.
("I got her clothes for school, new shoes, new stationary, paid her school fees and got her a English tutor for off days... I think you can get her a fucking backpack Layla")
With that reply he put his phone on sleep mode, which turned the screen to black, then he heard the familiar sound of an engine cutting out on the driveway.
